WRECKED IN A COLLISION Schooner City of Augusta Sinks the Schooner A. Heaton. Captain ot the Ileuton Supped at to Wnins Time itnd ni Vowel Yt'iiH CruHhfd to Splinter. Boston. Sept. 16. Schooner City of Angus ta. Captain Ada ms.from Georgetown, D. C, with coal, brought here yesterday Capt Handy and crew, of schooner A Heaton, before reported wrecked off High land Light The two vessels were In collision early Friday mo ruing offNausett, and the Heaton sank within two or three minutes after the accident The captain and crew, how ever, had time to Jump aboard the Augusta According to Capt. Adams, he wassailing free with the wind northwest and the night clear, when the lookout reported lights on the port bow. This was about 1 IS Friday morning. The vessel was running south, and appeared to be about a mlleanda half away. The Augusta held her course by the wind, and about a quarter ot a mile away the other vessel changed her course to keep off across the Augusta's liow Every thing would pmliably have gone all right had not the captain ot the Heaton changed hU mind, aud tiled to luff across again. The inevitable collision occurred, the Augusta's starlioard striking the Heaton a glancing blow on the port side. The Heaton seemed to go all to pieces. The noise made by her breaking up sounded like a volley of musketry. Capt Handy, Mate Johnson, the steward and four men had just time enough to save their lives. They were uninjured. wlOi the exception of one or Hte men, whose root was bruised. The rore-rlgging or the Augusta was car ried away and she lost her jib-boom, mar tingale, head stays, starboard cathead and starboard anchor. The anchor became tangled in the wreck age nnd could not be cleared. GETTING HACK IIOSIE. G. A. R. Slen and TV. R. C.
