ACCOUNT OP THE EXPEDI TION AGAINST CUBA. Key West. May 22. On the 2d May, 1850, the l.rij Susan Loud left tlm city of New Or leans, having on bonnl 150 officers nnd men, under the cnmmanil of Col. Wheat, and nfter cruisint' in the jjulf for nliont 7 (lavs met the steamer Creole, which hail on hoard 17."iinen, under the command of Colonel Untied and General Lopez and stall". The men on hoard the Ini emhaiked in the steamer, which atcered for the Isle of M uuc, whore we took in wa ter. Wc remained there two days nnd again got under way and proceed ed to a small uninhabited island, some fifteen miles distant, where we met Col. O'llara, in barque Georginnn, with 250 men. who joined us. Hav ing our full compliment, amounting to some 000 men, including officers, we pot under way and arrived at the port of Cardenas (Cuba,) on Sunday morn ing, May 1!), at about 1 A. M. and immediately landed our forces. At half past 2 A. M. took up the line of march to the Ijovernor.i mansion. In front of the Vluca, and, when but a short distance from the mansion, pro. cured n guide and proceeded till within some sixty yards of the Gov ernor's residence, when we were wel comed by a shower of bullets from all quarters, particularly from the lops of houses, windows, piazzas, which -wounded Colonels O'llara and Wheat and many men, none mortally. Wo then commenced to show them that jvo were on hand and ready to reciprocate their politeness. At it wc went, the inhabitants having nil the advantage. After an engagement of about one hour, the white Hair was displayed from a window of the Gov. ernor's residence, which caused our firing to cease. After wailing a suit able time to hear from them, they re-commcuccd litim:. dangerously Wounding Lieut. E. L. Jones, of C nn pany K. Louisiana 'Urgimeut, ami slightly vvoundiiiir some 1(! men. The Governor's residence was then fired, which caused its inmates, consisting of Governor nnd stair to surrender. He was, together with his staff nnd troops, in nil 100, placed under guard in their bat racks. Wc liberated about 150 prisoners, whom we found in jail. All arms, ammunition, horses, &c. wero collected from the citizens for our use. We remained in quiet pos scssi'-n of the city until duk of the evening, during which time the entire force, except General Lopez ami stall" iind a command ol 25 men under Cart. Logan, of Kentucky Regiment, had returned on board ol our steamer to rest, when, to our surprise, the command was attacked by 150 to 200 lancers and cavalry, all mounted. Captain Logan defended his position until reinforced from the steamer. The engagement lasted about three quarters of an hour. Our loss, in killed and wounded, amounted to 12, including Capt. L., who was mortally wounded, nnd died on hoard the steam er. The enemy lost all except some twelve men. l)nriog the engagement we kept retreating, (having understood that they were expecting a heavy reinforcement.) Got the steamer un der way on Sunday evening, about 10 o'clock, having lost, in all, 8 killed nnd wounded. At 12 M. on the morn ing of the 20th, discovered a Spanish man of war some 15 miles to the southward and eastward, apparently in chase ol us. Wc kept our steamer under heavy steam, piling cn lib's, of rosin anil coal, and at about 8 A. Al. of 21st. saw a steamer to windward. Procuring a pilot,ol'the reef of Florida, wo ran into Key West, where we arrived at about 1 1 I and landed, being chased up to that time. To PitESKRvi: Heef-Stka s. The Tribune goes on to remark: Wero this an isolated case, it might pass without comment; but when we consider that these 5000 tons of I'ritisli rails are bin a part of the 500.000 re cently procured, already purchased or about to be contracted for, we bespeak for the subject a thoughtful attention. Summary Vknueancb. The mur der a month or two ago, by a white man and negress, of Mrs. Allen, a lady living in the vicinity of Liberty, near the Missouri river, is remembered by many of our renders. The murder was perpetrated with a view of ob taining 8 1,000, the proceeds, il was believed b,y the negress and her ac complice, of the recent sa'o of her farm. Before the perpetration of the crime, a regular bargain was struck, that, as soon as the money was ob tained, they were to bo married nnd to emigrate to California. From the officers of the steamer Juli'i, we ascertain that when it bo came known that the only proofs against the guilty parties, were the declarations of the negro woman her self, nnd some slight corroborate eii cunitancos. all hopes of the r con viction by a regular course of law having ceased, the citizens of the locality determined themselves to ad minister justice. The man and wo man were secured, and, followed by a large crowd of people, taken to Lib erty. A jury, composed of twelve persons, was appointed, and the case reviewed from beginning to end when they were found guilty, and sentenced to be hung. Another procession was formed, and the multitude, with the piisoners in their tniilst, repaired to ilu woods. Here the first tree ser ved as n gibbet. Doth wero hung until they were dead.
