THE FILLMORE ADMINISTRA TION. The New Orleans Bulletin of the 27th ultimo remarks, with much truth: 'There has not been nn Adminis tration for many years that has given a more universal and unqualified sat isfaction to the YVhi; party, and fur nished less cause of complaint to the Democratic party, than the ' present. We except, of course, two classes of professional politicians that portion of the Northern Whin; and Democratic parties, who arc averse to the settle cnent of the slavery question, in the accomplishment of which President Fillmore has been so potently instru mental, nnJ a few ultra Democrats of he South, who could not, if they would, candidly and ingenuously give due credit or render sheer justice to political opponents. This latter class, under no circumstances, could bo in duced to commend the policy of a Whig Administration: su'h an tut of independence would not only bo fur eiiirHo their nature and education, but to their mntfims of political con duct. In their estimation, nt least as avowed, not'hinnr good can come out of a Whiir, and particularly a North ern Whiir; and in this they are as consistently proscriptivo as the Jews were ol old, who persisted in believing that '.'lothinf; jool could come out of Nazareth.' The simple fact that the Prusident has not given, and in no possible contingency could give, satis faction to these two factions, is one of the best tests of his fidelity and worth, atid his claims upon the approbation of the public. The country at large, the masses of the people, who arc evcrv dav lonrning more and more of the tricks nf the trade of politics, and nre getting to entertain nn apprecia tive value of those trading politicians, the rule nnd measure of whose con duct is the maxim 'tha laborer is worthy of his hire' the people, we say, know well, and value too, the wise, liberal, and patriotic course that has been pursued by the present Ad ministration. These two fictions, who nre in ad vance determined to prejudge nnd condemn the acts of the Government, may be denominated in French par lance the extreme right nnd the ex treme left each diametrically and and anlipod.illv opposed to the other but boih united in their opposition to ihe juste milieu. As. by way ol illustration, the wise, conservative, and patriotic course put sued by the Administration in quelling limitation. and quieting the excited feelings of the country upon the troub'ous ques tions of ihe dav, is as opposite to the designs nnd offensive to the tastes of Southern ns Northern disorganizers. "Mr. Fillmore, for this, above all other reasons, has provoked the op position of Southern nnd Northern ultras, nnd his endorsement of all the measures of the compromise, nnd the fcold and manly nvowal he has made to stand by the compromise in its in tegritv, litis nroused in these two op pnsite quarters a feeling of disaffection nnd of pointed hostility stronger than Is habitually created bv mere party hostility. But Mr. Fillmore will be sustained manfully by the intelligence nnd patriotism of the cr untrv He is right; for he is for maintaining the supremacy of the laws, nnd he is sure to receive the npprovnl nnd support of nil who value virtue and love their country." Advertising!. -IT is n shrewd man who advertises. Phis is proverbial. the world over. It is simply putting vour goods, wares, merits, plans, sug gostions, bargains, &c, into the eyes of the universal public. Lvcryboily reads the newspapers now a davs. A good advertisement is like taking every man and woman in society by the vest, button hole or nrtr., nnd pri vately whispering to them important matter. Who are thev that succeed in bu siness? The one who stirs up the public; or those who make no more noise tlun a chuich mouse? 01 course, the former. Nicely Caught--A Lobster, c.n nitii) off by a Dog. Among otner capital things in the March number of the Knickerbocker, is a story of the manner in which a lover of lobsters mad s a raise of one of those delicious shell lis1'. The man so foil I of lob- sters, was wistfully and mouth water- imrlv rcirardinir a basket of them in the market, with bis dog by his side. while another bystander was sticking the end of his crt'ie in one of the dis engaged claws of a big fell w at the top. " "How he does hold on I" said the man with the cane. Yes," re sponded the man with the dog, "but it's because he dints the cane, nnd his claws wont slip on the wood. Hut he -ould'nt bold on to a criiier.or you nnd I. in that wav. When he feels . . ii. 1 anv thing fsmin; n lousier aiw.ivs stops pini-hin' " 'l rather guess not, said the owner ol t c lobsters: "you out vour doifs tail in that there claw, and you'll sue whether he'll hold on to't or not." No sooner said than lone; the lobster lover lifted up bis bvr. nnd droonml his tail in'o the open r-livsnd inslatitrir. and the dog ran yelping and bawling o(T at the lop of his speed. "Hello! cx- binned the owner of the basket. "whistle back your dog: he's n riinnin' off with mv lobster I" "Whistle back vour lobster!" rejoined the other; "th it dog ain't eomin' back; that dog's in pain! I can't git him to come near me when ho s in pain." I ne numanc owner of the cur dined upon ns fine a lobster that day ns there was in Itu1 basket ! It b.is lirrn ascertained that the young lady who refused to permit the anrimo.vounff "fellow" who would not join the temperance society, to escori her from church, stating ns a reason "that she had resolved never again to trust hnr arm in the handle of a log. is the same one who refused n pinch of snuff a few vears since with the rnmni-L- "ilmt she considered her nose of more importance than to make a duslhoh of it." Efforts nre being made to ascertain what relationship exists between her nnd the young ladv who aUvnvs sung without being coaxed. We doubt not but that Ihey ill be found at least to be sisters; il. indeed, thev arc not the same person Some assert this young lady is n daughter of the man who always ion the newspapers and paid for them in advance.
