Cincinnatf.,'nyuufr: "The carrying of
east-bound cottjn from Memphis and
other Southern points forms no small
proportion of the business of our
south-bound steamboat lines. It seems
that some of the railroads from here
East have not been 'playing fair' with
the itsamboats, and the Memphis and
Cincinnati Packet Company yesterday
brc light suit in the Uo ited tstates Couit
against the Cleveland, Columbus, Cin
cinnati and Indianapolis Railroad
Oorapaay, to perpetually restrain them
from collecting charges in excess of
what other common-carrier companies
are cnargeu. it is claimed that while
the above read only charges the Louis
ville and Nashville and Ohio and Mis
sissippi railrcads 23 M0 cents per 100
pounds to New York, and 26 8-10 cents
per iuo pounds to Boston, they charge
the Memphis and Cincinnati Packet
Coinpauy 25 cents to New York aad
30 cents to Boiton and other points.
The result of the salt will be watched
with a great deal of interest, as it has
been a long while since a steamboat
company had the nerve to tackle a
railroad company in a court cf justice."
