Mandich, opened the ses sion with greetings. All members of the Board and Officials were present. The Minutes of the March 10th session were approved as read. On the motion by bro. Bella, seconded by bro. Mandieh, t&ffe bills of the Board of Trustees and the Vice-President in the. amount of $2858.63 were approved for payment by the Board for attending the semi-annual sessions of the Supreme Board in March, 1954. As the first order of business, bro. Mandich called for reading of the unapproved Minutes of the Supreme Board. Bro. Brkich then read the 9th session of the Supreme Board, which was approved as read, on the motion by bro. Krasic, seconded by bro. Bella. Bro. Vukelic read the 10th session, which was approved on the motion by bro. Jšrasic, seconded by bro. Grasha. Bro. Bella read the 11th and final session, which was also approved on the motion by bro. Ovcarich, seconded by bro. Mandich. Bro. Bella presented the following cases to the Board: Lodge 4 Ivan Basa exhausted the reserve value on his certificate. Upon the members death, the lodge submitted a request for assistance from the National Fund to provide up to $400.00 for funeral expenses. The Board approved said request in accordance with the 1947 Convention decision. Lodge 68 Kata Kanjer named her husband benefi ciary, who predeceased the member. The Board approved payment to 5 surviving children. Lodge 180 Ivan Jurkovich desires to change benefi ciaries by agreement to a friend, Peter Evock, which the Board approved. Lodge 644 Mike Spudic exhausted the reserve value $2i his certificate, and is at present confined iri a mental in stitution. Upon the request of the lodge for assistance to this member, the Board approved the issuance of a paid-up certificate effective March 1, 1954 for $170.00 for 17 years of membership to be designated solely for funeral expenses, as per decision of the Supreme Board in such cases. The indebtedness to purchase the single premium of $170.00 shall lie paid from the National Fund. Lodge 787 Anthony Carr transferred from the Junior Order in October, 1953 on a $1000.00 certificate, and died in January," 1954. The Board approved payment of $500.00 as per section 568, and one-third of $500.00 as per section 216 of the by-laws. Lodge 905 Louis Rubick wishes to designate his Es tate as beneficiary, which the Board approved. Lodge 1 The Board approved the request of the lodge for assistance from the National Fund, for their member, Luka Ferencic. The Home Office shall print letters and en velopes for distribution to all lodges for donations, and said printing bill is to be paid from the National Fund. Lodge 173 The request of the lodge for assistance from the National Fund for their member, Frances Roitz, is denied. Lodge 540 The letter of complaint, from a member of said lodge, bro. Nick Savanovich, could not be acted upon by the Board, since the nature of the complaint is strictly lodge business and should be straightened out by the lodge and its Officers. Lodge 557 The letter from said lodge is acknowledged Jgid filed. The following items were approved for payment: ^$10.00 donation to the Allegheny County Society for ^rippled Children. $15.32 to Matthew Belanic^ Supreme Board Member, for telephone calls made in connection with obtaining our New York license. $69.86 to the Penn Mfg. Co. for replacing a glass top in the Board room at the Home Office. $25.00 to the New England Fraternal Congress for dues. $502.68 to S. Binstock and Co. for merchandise awards distributed to our Campaign winners in the 1953 Campaign. $12.00 to the Pittsburgh Machine Accounting Assoc. for dues. $10.00 donation to the Salvation Army. $25.00 to Tony Brajdic for filming the Supreme Board Members. $117.00 to H. N. Bruce and Assoc. for actuarial services for the Junior Order not contained in the retainer fee. $75.00 donation from Junior Order funds to Nest 21 of Etna towards the Junior Dux Tourney bowlers party. $125.00 donation to lodge 234, who are sponsors of the annual Father and Son Dux Bowling Tournament. $62.86 to the CFU Print Shop for printing bills of the Sports Department. $9.45 reimbursement to the Junior bowlers of Nest 615 in Toronto. On the recommendation of bro. Braidic, the Sports Di rector, the Bof.rd approved an expenditure up to $30.00 for photographs to be taken during the basketball tournament in Farrell. On the motion by bro. Krasic, seconded by bro. Man dich, the Board unanimously approved a donation of $25.00 each to the 60 year members of the organization on the occasion of the 60th Anniversary Celebration of the Union this year. Bro. Mandich submitted a brief report on the progress of the membership Campaign as of April 1, stating that a total of 1174 new members were enrolled, representing $932,300.00 in new insurance written. On the Cleveland Campaign, he reported 13 new members and $13,500.00 new insurance thus far. Brothers Mandic and Krasic offered the suggestion that the 3 radio programs in the Pittsburgh area be offered the same privileges in this year's Campaign as was given to brother Birek in Cleveland, that is, if each radio program can obtain 100 new members to their credit during the Cam paign, and if said radio programs advertise the Campaign on their own every week, the Organization would in return offer the Directors, who qualify, a round trip fare to the Convention in Philadelphia, plus 3 Convention per diems to each. After a lengthy discussion, the Board Members unani mously agreed with the recommendation of Bros. Manaich and Krasic, and instructed the Campaign Committee to get in touch with the Directors of these radio programs and sub mit our offer to them. The request of the Office Employees International Union, for a $25.00 blanket increase in wages for all clerical employees at the Home Office, was rejected unanimously by the Board. The request of the lodges in Sudbury, Ontario, for a speaker from the Home Office at the expense of the Organi zation, could not be granted as per decision of the Supreme Boards Lodge S Bro. Mandich informed the Board that he cannot accept their invitation as guest speaker at their 60th Anniversary Celebration, due to previous commitments. Lodge 4 Bros. Krasic and Brkich are to attend the 60th Anniversary Celebration of the lodge as guest speakers on May 16. Lodge 6 Bros. Mandich and Balaban are to be the guest speakers at the 60th Anniversary Celebration of the Lodge on May 2. Bro. Bella is the guest speaker at the annual Cleveland Croatian Day to be held at the Croatian Home on August 15. Bro. Grasha requested permission to purchase a new typewriter for his department, and also wishes to retain the subscription to the New York Times newspaper which bro. Vukelic no longer desires, both of which were approved 18th Annua! Kruzic, Tournament Secretary by the Board. Bro. Milan Skrtic, member of the Supreme Board, was authorized to be our representative at the Ohio Fraternal Congress. The Board unanimously agreed to obtain 3 bids to paint the interior and exterior of the Home Office. Also, 2 bids to remove the sidewalk lift, coal shute and repair the sidewalk where necessary. Bro. Bozic read a letter from the Typographical and Pressmen's Union, wherein they request a salary increase of $3.00 per week for the linotype operators and pressmen at the Home Office effective as of March 8, 1954, also, retro active pay of $18.00 to the linotype operators. The Board approved the salary increases as per agreement between the Employers Association and Printers Union. Bro. Ovcarich presented the following cases to the Board Lodge 24 Sister Marta Dragisic, cert. 13815 submit ted a claim for an operation which is not payable as per the by-laws. Being that the operation was of a serious nature, the Board approved payment of the claim as per section 296 of the by-laws, on the recommendation of bro. Ovcarich and the Supreme Medical Director. Lodge 504 Sister Mara Zaluski, cert. 88622, also sub mitted a claim for operation benefits which is not payable. Since the operation was of a serious nature, the Board ap proved payment of the claim as per section 296 of the by laws Lodge 625 Bro. Klement Kruljac, cert. 26194, for some reason did not submit his claims to the lodge secretary. On the explanation of the lodge, and submitted evidence that the member is incurably disabled, the Board approved pay ment of his sick benefits for the entire year of 1953. There being no further business to transact, the Su preme President adjourned the session.
