As our members know, this year the United Lodges of Western Pennsylvania are combining their annual event with the official celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the Croatian Fraternal Union. Our parent Lodge 541 is pledged to do its share to enable Shirley to become a winner in the contest. Shirley was born on Janu ary 22, 1939, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Uherek. She is attending Junior High School and, we might add, is an out standing scholar. Because of its participation in all cultural, civic and fra ternal events throughout the past forty years, the Society today is widely known and has many friends near and far, many of whom have al ready notified us of their in tentions to be present upon this momentous occasion. We are happy to announce that bro. V. I. Mandich, Su preme President of the Cro atian Fraternal Union, will be our guest. The CFU is very much interested in promoting Croatian culture and has been of great assistance to the Croatian Singers Federation with which our Glee Club is also affiliated. We appreciate the fact that it is impossible for glee clubs removed by great distances to participate upon the occa sion of each anniversary. Bearing this in mind, we are eagerly looking forward to having with us upon this glorious occasion, their repre sentatives who will bring us the best wishes of their entire membership and share with us this happy day. Our program will feature two Croatian singing soci eties of the Chicago area, "Zora" of Chicago, and "Slo ga" of Indiana Harbor, as well as the Polish Singing So ciety "Chopin" of Gary. Gary Singing Society Will Celebrate Fortieth Anniversary Sunday, May 23 Gary, Ind. Sylvia Niksic, Publicity Coast Croatians Plan Celebration Los Angeles, Calif. The Croatian National Associa tion, boasting of its fifteen member Lodges, is celebrat ing its 15th Anniversary on Sunday, June 13, at the Cro a i a n e e a i o n e n e 11625 South Budlong Avenue, in Los Angeles. Extensive preparations are under way for this gigantic festival which constitutes the season's first "kickoff" so to speak, on a combination Pic nic, Program and Dance. The gates will open at 11:30 AM and there will be tamburitza music and shuffling through out the day. The program portion of the event begins promptly at 1:30 PM. At 4:30 PM and lasting until 8:00 PM, a surprise top notch polka band will play for your pleasure in the ballroom. At this point and going strong until the stroke of midnight, Freddie Gray and his famous orchestra will be dispensing your dance tunes. So friends, members and what have you, remember the date, Sunday, June 13th. Draw a big circle on your social calendars and plan now to attend the 15th Anniversa ry celebration of the CNA. More Lodges Map 60th Anniversary Salutes South St. Paul, Verona, Kenosha And Denver Plan Fetes GREAT SHRINE Independence Hall, shown above, is only one of the many historical sights which Delegates to the CFU's 9th Quadrennial Convention at Philadelphia in 1955 will visit. Others who will visit this great eastern metropolis at the time are all Field Workers who amass 750 Points in the Croatian Fraternal Union's 60th Anniversary Membership Campaign. Those who succeed in amassing as many Points will attend the 9th Convention in the role of an Honorary Delegate and be entitled to travelling expenses to and from Philadelphia and three per diems as set by the regular Delegates to the Convention. Here, indeed, is an honor well worth working for before the Campaign ends on November 30,1954. Details elsewhere in today's "Zee". Aliquippa's "Jadran" Choral Society In Annual Spring Concert Sunday Next Aliquippa, Pa. The "Jad ran" Singing Society will stage its Spring Concert on Sunday, May 23, at the CIO Hall, 501 Franklin Avenue. On the program we intend to feature a male dance or chestra from Monaca, Pa., a long with our own "Jadran" group in selected old time fa vorites, the New Brighton, Pa., Kolo Club, and the well known Pozega Tamburitza Orchestra of Girard, Ohio, which may be heard during the course of the program and later as our dancing ac companists. The star studded program begins promptly at 7:00 PM, followed by dancing in the up stairs hall until the wee hours of the morning. The down stairs hall is being taken over by our Refreshments Com mittee, which promises to have plenty of food and bev erages on hand to satisfy all customers. We invite our music and dance lovers from this and surrounding vicinities to be our guests at "Jadran's" Spring Concert. The date is Sunday, May 23, at the C.I.O. Hall William J. Denver Lodges 12 And 934 Will Stagt Sixtieth Anniversary Fiesta June 6th John Ovcarich To Represent Society At Fete Honoring Croatian Fraternal Union Denver, Colo. On Sunday, June 6, at 2:00 PM, the members of CFU Lodge 12 and those of the ES Lodge 934 plan to stage a gigantic 60th Anniversary celebration of the Croatian Fraternal Union at the Croatian Home, 4485 Lo gan Street. Inasmuch as this is also the 60th Anniversary of the founding of Lodge 12, the entire CFU Colony in this area is putting its shoulder to the^ wheel to make this one of the dates and make certain that outstanding events in our history. Our program will consist of a Banquet at 2:00 PM and a Dance to follow the conclu sion of this. Many leading local citizens will be on hand to pay homage to our pio neers, while the CFU Home Office will be represented on the speakers rostrum by bro. John Ovcarich, Sick Benefit Secretary. High Mass On May 30th On Sunday, May 30, our members will be asked to at tend the 10:00 AM Solemn High Mass at Holy Rosary Church, 47th and Pearl Sts., a Mass which will be celebra ted for all the members of our society. A meeting of representatives of all Cleve land Lodges has been set for Tuesday, May 25, at 8:00 PM, at the Croatian Home, 6314 St. Clair Avenue. The purpose of this gath ering is, to plan future strate gy in the current CFU Mem bership Campaign drive, and decide ways and means of how we may best promote the Campaign which we have pledged to put over the top during this, the Diamond Ju bilee Year of the Croatian Fraternal Union. An exchange of ideas on how to proceed at this point is greatly desired and we hope to have a large delegation on hand next Tuesday. Kolo Dancers To Star On May 30fh Cleveland, Ohio Among the dancing groups scheduled for an appearance at the gi gantic Kolo Festival to be staged in Cleveland over the Memorial Day weekend, is the popular "Slavulj" Singing So ciety and Kolo ensemble. Although these fine artists are best known for their cho ral renditions, they have al ways been able to do them selves proud when called upon to demonstrate their folk dancing skill. This very active society has appeared at a great many social functions in the Cleve land area and surrounding communities. Each spring and fall they stage a concert pro gram which proves very pop ular with our people. The co operation of this society may be counted upon on all occa sions. Within the past year "Sla vulj" has appeared on the "Jadran" Singing Society's 20th Anniversary program, in Aliquippa, Pa., at the 40th Anniversary of the "Slavulj" S i n i n S o i e y e o i Mich., the First Kolo Festi val, in Braddock, Pa., the Cro atian Singing Alliance "Fal ler" Festival, in Cleveland, Ohio, the Croatian Radio Hour and the Cleveland Press Nationality Program, in Cle veland. Mr. Joseph Grgurincich has been the director of this group ever since its organi zation some seventeen years ago. It is with great pride that the Kolo Federation of Ame rica welcomes this fine group to participate on the program at the 2nd Annual Kolo Fes tival on Sunday, May 30th.
