The Committee in charge of the Mothers' Day Celebration to be held on May 13 met again on April 4. We are very hap py to announce that plans are all under way for this event which wlll tke place at the Harmony Hall, 939 So. 6th St. Bro. Nick Hinich brought back from Pittsburgh the good news that Croatian Edi tor Philip Vukelich has ac cepted our invitation to be guest speaker that day. Following the program, a fine supper will be served and dancing will follow. Tickets are being sold in advance and can be purchased at the door on the day of the event. We also wish to remind our members that there will be a campaign meeting held at Karlovich Hall on May 12 at 8 PM. Case Of Endowment Versus Motor Boat PITTSBURGH We are happy to be able to continue reporting a successful Mem bership Campaign. As we've oft repeated, this year's re sults are just short of spec tacular—certainly the best in our fifth year of incumbency. The results to date place us well into the second half of the third thousand new mem bers. More than half of the Cam paign's duration has elapsed. Sou thern California will host the 7th Annual CFU California State Bowling Tournament during the weekend of May 26 and 27, 1956. Approximately 35 to 40 teams will contest at the La Cienega Lanes (formerly owned by Art Linkletter), 8491 Santa Monica Blvd. The lanes contain 22 alleys with automatic pinspotters. The usual banquet will take place on Sunday afternoon, the 27th of May. their arrival in Zagreb from the United States and Canada. In the early days of today's Croatian Fraternal Union, it was planned to accept female applicants only as "associate members," and not as full fledged affiliates of the then small Society. It was a "man's world" in those hal cyon days. But those powers that were in those days changed their attitude in time and the first by-laws allowed admission of female appli cants and set up machinery for the organization of Lodges for female mem bers only. "St. Anna" Lodge 29 was the first such Ladies Lodge to be organized. Today, 60 years later, it boasts of more than 450 mem bers and has the unique dis tinction of being the largest Ladies Lodge within the So ciety. First Female Delegate And the records show that "St. Anna" Lodge 29 was the first unit of the old "Hrvat ska Zajednica" to restrict membership to members of the fair sex.
