SIX PAGES Golfers Girding For Gary Classic Home Office Will Send Top Official GARY Almost 80 men and women hailing from all parts of the United States will participate in the Croatian Fraternal Union's 4th Annual Mid-West Open Golf Tourna ment here on Saturday, July 28th. Scene of the champion ships will be the South Gleason Park Club, 35th and Jefferson Street, Gary, and tee off time has been set from 8:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. The pre-tourney schedule calls quainted Party Friday evening, July 27, at Gary's Croatian Center and many local and distant golfers and their friends are expected to attend the festi vities. Mayor, Councilman Set Quite a crowd is expected to follow the golfers around the tricky South Gleason course throughout the Satur day, July 28, struggle lor the tourney trophies. Many of the fans will follow two swingers of con siderable local and district importance, Mayor Peter Mandich of Gary and Gary 6th District Councilman Alois Wozniak, both mem bers of Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge 170. Whether their prowess on the links is equal to their po litical finesse remains to be seen. But come missed putts, poor drives and all, these dis tinguished public figures will be out Saturday to get in a little exercise, if nothing else. Evening Banquet, Dance A Banquet and Dance will climax the running of this growing classic. Tickets for the fete will be distributed at the South Glea son layout to team captains and any members and friends of the Society desiring to be in attendance. The Cocktail Hour will run from 5:30 to 6:30 PM and the Banquet is scheduled to begin immediately thereafter. All trophy and other prize a wards will be made during these festivities. Representing the Home Office on the occasion will be Supreme Secretary Jo seph Bella. So much for what promises to be a day long to be fondly remembered. The daughter of Joseph and Helen Migalic, and a o e i a s u e n a Mars High School, she won out for the honor over Far rell, Pa., Lodge 126 candi date Joanne Lopuh In a close race./- Trailing were Catherine Brigich, Canonsburg, a., Lodge 567, Rose Marie Bala ban, Uniontown, Pa., Lodge 72, and Betty Ordich, Mid land, Pa., Lodge 535. Francis R. Smith, Insurance Commis sioner of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Introduced by 1st Deputy Insurance o i s s i o n e o a s Balaban, former CFU Gener al Counsel, Mr. Smith made one of the most remarkable speeches ever delivered before members of the Society. Supreme Secretary Is Scheduled To Speak In Aliquippa On July 29th Aliquippa, Pa. Lodge 423 of the Croatian Frater nal Union will stage its An nual Picnic on Sunday, July 29, at the Serbian Church Grounds, Brodhead Road. Our menu for the day will include hot barbecued lamb, pork, kobasi, hot dogs and a Variety of cooling refresh ments. Music for dancing will be provided by the Blue Danube Tamburitza Orchestra from 3 PM until the l&te hours of the evening. There will also be a short program from 5 until 6 PM during which bro. Jo seph Bella, Supreme Secre tary of the Croatian Fra ternal Union, will be the main speaker. Those who do not have an automobile can reach the grounds by taking either the Shaffer or the City Bus. They both run every hour. Since this is our only out ing this year, we urge all our members and many friends of the area to attend. Dobro nam došli. District Croats In Three-Day Fete 25th Anniversary For Croatian Day PITTSBURGH The Scr bina Tamburitza Orchestra of Youngstown, Ohio, will be the star attraction at the 25th Annual observance of Croatian Day on Saturday, September 1, 1956, at Kenny wood Park. Among other entertain ers scheduled for appear ance at this early date are tite youthful Teen Tarns of North Side, and vocalist, Miss Louise Popovich of Aliquippa, Pa. Arrange ments are being made to bring to our stage a well known public figure, but more will be said about this at a later date. For the present we ask the readers of the "Zee" through out the land to schedule ab solutely nothing for the La bor Day weekend, but a visit to America's favorite outing grounds, Pittsburgh's famed Kennywood Park. You'll be happy you did. Reunion Picnic Sept. 3 Don't forget there will be an ample supply of hot bar becued lamb fresh from the spits of Joe and Ann Cindric. They've had plenty of exper ience in handling those huge crowds at Kennywood, so don't hesitate to treat the family to supper right at the park. May we also remind our prospective guests that a new feature has been added to our celebration, since this is our Silver Jubilee and this is a Reunion Picnic, on Labor Day, at the Croatian Center. Here we will also have re freshments of all sorts and dancing for those jive cats who plan to attend. Then too, the Committee 1s most anxious to make a success of its raffle, sche duled to be run off at the Center on Labor Day. The prize is $500 cash, so if we don't get around to you, won't you approach one of our members and try your lack? There you have it folks, a grand slam weekend packed with entertainment galore. We sincerely hope you wind up the summer in a fitting style by attending the Croa tian Day festivities on Satur day at Kennywood Park, on Sunday at the Croatian Home in Rankin, and on Monday at the Croatian Center in Mill vale. Budlong, Los Angeles. The gates will be open from 10 AM until 12 mid night. You and your friends can enjoy eating such favor ite foods as barbecued lamb, kobasi, home made pastries and cool refreshing drinks. Special childrens rides, games and attractions will be featured and the Hayduk Tamburitza Orchestra will play kolos, polkas and waltz es. At 3 PM an interesting and enjoyable program will be staged in the spacious audi torium, at which time you will have the pleasure of hearing the Croatian Chorus "Slavulj" featuring the love ly voice of Helen Vukovich, soloist, a trio from "Slavulj", Supreme Board of Directors of the Croatian Fra ternal Union of America, at its regular semi-annual meeting in March, unanimously approved the parti cipation of our organization in the project of the American Museum of Immigration to build, at the foot of the Statue of Liberty, a museum which will tell the story of the making of America by people who came here from all parts mi of the world. It is a project which has the personal endorsement of President Eisenhower and the sup- JA port of major organizations and groups from one mm end of the country to the other. The Croatian Fraternal Union of America has been given an opportunity to join in this "Operation Unity" so that all our members might share in this tribute to National Unity and good will. Lodge 59 of the Croatian Fraternal Union will spofisor a Picnic on Sunday, July 29, at Wise's Grove, which is located on Route 88 near New Brighton. The traditional hot barbe cued lamb and other Croatian delicacies will be prepared for you and there will be en tertainment galore, as fur nished by the Biser Tambur itza Orchestra of Conway. The members and friends of Lodge 59 and all other neighboring lodges are invi ted to attend. For 8th Annual Fraternal Day the St. Anthony Kolo Dan cers, Mr. M. D. Klempay, classical pianist, and many others. Beginning at 7 PM a pop ular dance band, under the direction of Peter Lubisich, will play until 12 midnight. Governor Of Ohio To Speafe Aug. 26 Dstrfng Cleveland's Frat Day CLEVELAND A cordial invitation is extended to all our members and friends of Cleveland and vicinity to at tend the 20th Annual Frater nal Day, which will be spon sored by the United C.F.U. Lodges of Cleveland on Sun day, August 26, at Puritas Springs Park. The program will be short but very interesting. It will feature three kolo groups, two singing societies, a very talented vocalist and the mu sical entertainment of the Blue Danube Tamburitza Or chestra. Our guest speaker from the Home Office will be Supreme President V. I. Mandich, and representing our State of Ohio will be the very popular Governor Frank J. Lausche. The Master of Ceremonies will be none other than bro. John Badovinac, President of the CFU High Trial Board. There will be plenty of bar becued lamb, pork and other delicacies and plenty of cool drinks. Through this inspiring project each of us can demon strate our gratitude for the blessings of liberty here in America and our appreciation of the opportunities extended to all, regardless of where we came from and when we came. You can form a special AMI Committee to co-ordi nate the program at your Lodge. They are Frank X. Kry zan, Mayor of Youngstown and a member of "St. George" Lodge 66 Michael Kovach, Mayor of Camp bell and a member of "Kn i s of Croatia'* Lodge 185 and Stanley Po lansky, Mayor of McDon ald and member of "Dom Slobode" Lodge 598. Musical selections during the program will be by Ohio's favorite musical sons, the Pozega Tamburitzans. Danc ing before and after the pro gram will be to the music of the same ensemble. The fete itself will begin at 12:00 Noon and barbecued lamb, pork, refreshments, etc., will be available from the very start of this annual gathering. Growing In Popularity The rapid rise in populari ty of these Annual Mahoning Valley "Fraternal Days" has been phenomenal to say the least. Members and friends of the Croatian Fraternal Union from all parts of Ohio, nu Established 1929 ENGLISH SECTION Supreme And Trustees Presidents To Share Speaking Spotlight With Mayors Of Youngstown, Campbell And McDonald By Vincent Radilovic, Secretary, United Lodges YOUNGSTOWN The Croatian Fraternal Union's United Lodges of Mahoning Valley will hold their 8th An nual "Fraternal Day" here Sunday, July 29. As per time honored custom, the festivities will be held under the auspices of Youngstown Lodges 66, 109, 149 and 435, Campbell Lodge 185 and Struthers Lćdgc 504 and take place at Whippoorwill Grovef on the outskirts of Youngs town. Supreme President V. I. Mandich will represent the Home Office of the Croa tian Fraternal Union on the occasion and speak during the afternoon program. PAGE SEVEN merous centers in Pennsyl vania and other distant com munities now turn out an nually for what has become the largest such CFU gath ering in this industrial sector. Outstanding speak ers, the best entertainment to be had, etc., have helped make memorable every "Fraternal Day" held to date. This year is no exception, as witness the imposing ora- torical talent and musical ar tists who will face the crowd next Sunday, July 29, all proud of the fact that the United Lodges of Mahoning Valley invited them to parti cipate in the festivities. There may be such CFU events which attract larger crowds. But none can outdo the hospitality which has been the hallmark of the Society's Mahoning Valley "Fraternal Days" since their very inception back in 1949 Two Farrel! Tsmmies Will Be Feted Before Di'ke Wisconsin Safari Farrell, Pa. The Sloga Tamburitzans and the Croa tian Civic Club will sponsor a Banquet in honor of Aurelia Krvar Mogun and Joe Sicic Lazich on Saturday, July 28, at 6 PM, in the Croatian Home at Staunton St. These two young members of the Sloga Tamburitzans were recently awarded Schol arships to Duquesne Univer sity and this will be a send off dinner, as they will be leaving for camp in Wisconsin on August 13 with the Du quesne University Tammies. We invite all the Croatians, Serbs and other Slavs of Far rell and vicinity to help us honor these two fine Sloga members on July 28.
