Mr. Polk spoke iu favor o: their withdrawal. No uew
points were made.
A discussion for two hours followed on the proposition
to give Mr. Crittenden the floor to-morrow instead of
Thursday, to the exc usion of all other business. The
prositiou was final y withdrawn.
Mr. Brown »a:d Mr. Piesident, when the record shall
be completed which the Senate is about to make, it will
show the absence of S nalora trom Alabama, Florida
and Missi-sippL l rise to say a word why this must be
•mi. These States have taken sreps to withdraw from the
Cnion, of which we are now so well officially informed as
tojusti'y oir ‘ling a formal notice of the fact with the
Sen it-; but we think our duty to our State and oui
-elvcs no longer permits us to take an active part iu the
proceedings of this body, eituer by speaking or voting.
My colleague is conhned to his room by sickuesa, but 1
am sure he concurs in what 1 say.

Nothing else of importance was done, and the Senate
adjourned.

The bill calling a Convention was considered in both
Houses, but no vote taken.
The resolution against coercion was postponed till to
morrow, but will pa>s.

CoiruBt's, January *14U».—The Legislature of Ohio
parsed a senes of resolutions Saturday, bailing with joy
the tirm, dignifi d and patriotic message of the President,
and pledging the entire power and resources cf that
State to the strict maintenance of the Constitution, and
the enforcement of tin- laws of the Gen ral Government,
whomsoever administered.
