reply to the soeecfe of Judge Douglas, yestrrdaV. He
denied that there were indications that the Republicans
hare abandoned their aggressive policy towards the
South. He culled npon them to say if they had aban
doned anv of their principles, f Mr. Col'am'cr said they
bud not] Mr. Rret-li inridge urged that, unices some
energ t-o and manly effort were made, the 1'oion wuuld
be irreparably crashed.
Mr. Douglas responded, insisting that the prospers of
the South relative to the Territories were better now titan
i ever.
On motion of Mr. Grim ■», the resolution of Mr. Doug
las was laid on the table by ayes 2S, noes 11.
Mr. Breckinrdge offered a resolution that the Senate
recommend au J advise the removal of the Federal troops
Iro n ibo limits ot the Confederate States.
Mr. Clinguta submitttd a similar resolution, adding a
ncommendation that the President abstain from any at
temp to collect revenue in the seceded Stated.
Both resolutions were laid over.

of the former. The terms of sale for the bulk of these lands will be
ONE YEAR’S INTEREST IN ADVANCE,
at six per cent, per annum, and tlx Interest notes at tlx per cent.,

from date of sale; And four note# for principal, payable In four,
live, six and seven vesrs from date of sale ; the contract stipula
ting than ona-teuth of the tract purchased shall be fenced and cul
