Wetaug| Bridge, Kist Tenaeuee, oc Monday, the 83 h
bit, between Brig.-Gan. A. I. Jscksoo and a superior
force of Yankees. When oar informant left Satiia the

wJl believe for a moment there is any such fores in the
field, aid it is evident a wholesale system of robbery
of the treasury is going oa.

Jerry Sullivan, a small boy, ohxrgod with peddling
tobacco at the Central depot witnout a license, was dis
charged.
Joshua, a slavs, was ordered to ba whipped for steal
ing a pair of boot* from Wm. Colas, a free negro, who
ie at work on the batteries. Joshua confessed the
theft. '

B. Lseman and M. Merrick, four of the ‘‘Iron Clad
Opera Troupe,” wise have till reesntly b sen playing at
Metropolitan Hall, in this oity, were captured on Tues
day In Glouoevter county, attempting to make their way
to the Yankee lines. They had been conscripted and
made their escape from the camp of instruction at
Camp Lee. Most of them htd forged Brit *h protection
papers. Merrick had the genuine ■nish papers of one
Thomas Grant. They were brought to this city Wed
nesday night and computed to Cavil i Thunder.
Pick 1’ockst. —Last Saturday evening, about four
o’clock, as a crowd were collect around the fish stand
in front of Thomas Phillips’, corner of Broad and 7th
streets, a well known thief named Wm. Mull made an
attempt to pick the pocket of Dr. John Phillips, o' the
Robiaeon Hospital, who wu examining the fish. Tie
Doc.or canght the thief with his hand in bis waistcoat
pocket, and had him arrested. Mull was brought be
fore the Mayor yesterday, aad, after th* facts h .d bean
heard, was committed to the chain gang for nine.y days,

morning the root of tho dwell ng-honse of Mr. Alfred
Chapman, on Marshall street, between Maditon and
Momoo streets, was fired by a spark from the chimney.
The fire being quickly discovered, was extinguished be*
fore any material damags had been sustained.
