John H. Pleasants, Esq.—This gentleman is
in a rage with the committee on retrenchment lor
exposing his extraordinary case to the people.
As we were told hy young John Adams “ of the '
capitol,” in his celebrated Report on Hilliard Ta -,
Ides and Chessmen, thateveiy thing under this ad
uiinistration is done “with an eye to the strictest 1
economy,” wo took a peep into the account of Mr.
Pleasants, whose voyages and adventures arc al
most as wouderfol as those of the renowned Ro
binson Crusoe, LIsq.—Mr. P. as thn editor of a
Richmond paper, having done the 11 slate some
service,” in supporting the election'of .Mr. Adams,
was directly alter election sent abroad as bearer ol
despatches—a very agreeable diplomatic contri
vance, by which a gentleman uiay visit foreign
countries at tho expense ot the country, provided
he lakes a packet of letters or a volume of Niles’
Register for our minister, charge See.
Mr. Pleasants was enployed to carry despatches
f<» Mr. Kaguet, at Rio de J.merio,and Air. Forbes,,
at Huenos Ayres. lie loti Richmond, he says, on
the 19th April,ami embarked oil the 28th Alay,
1825, at New York, for Huenos Ayres. It seems
he was all this time travelling between Haiti more
