Philadelphia, Aug. 15.— Hen;y Auld, of the firm of Bishop & Aulil, of this citv, was drowned to duv while bathing in the Ranco- C'jk His wife and children, who were on the shore, saw hiin sink while ihey were crying for i-uecor. Noah Sturgeon, captain of the sloop Martha and William Stevens, was drowned yesterday by the swamping of his boat, whilst carrying an iron grate to his vessel. He has a negro belonging to the Eastern shore of Mary land. A orth Carolina Election. Petersburg, August 15—Reid's majority for Governor will probably reach 4,500. To the House of Commons CI Whigs and 55 Democrats have been elected, leaving four Whig counties to be heard from. The Whigs will almost certainly have two majority on joint ballot. V al(>araiso advices report the loss, near the Island of Santa Maria, of the Boston ship Staf fordshire, bound to California, with a valuable freight. She had on board 160 passengers, all of whom, except one, were saved. The vessel was insured in Boston for $500,000. Kiot at Kort Hamilton—TUe Franklin coming up! Nkvv York, Aug. 16. A riot occurred at Fort Hamilton, about five miles from this city,yesterday, between the soldiers and negro waiters. Several of the negroes were badly wounded.
