THE DAILY DISPATCH. FRIDAY MORNING, SEPTEMBER I, lssT VIRGINIA Fir*.—We leatu from the Lyochbur* Virginian that the »torehous« of Mr. George T. Pleasants, <n A rnher»t county, w»» burnt on the night of the '23d of Augtwt, and his whole atock of book*, goods, consumed. The fire ia thought by Mr. P. to hard been the work of an incendiary, far thr de tection of whom, he offjrs a reward of *1.000. pßaiora Accidmt.—The Weston Herald state* that aa Meters. John White and James Alexander were about leaving the town of Ruckhannon, Up. •hnr county, a few daya ago, the horses ran off and both gentlemen were thrown out. Mr. White'a thigh bone waa broken in two place*, and the •okle of Mr Alexander waa ao badly fractured that It waa feared amputation would be neceaaary. Mvrdk* Tbial.—The trial of Eilaa Kailey, for the murder of bis wife, ia professing before the circuit court of Lewi* county. Licknsk—The people of Braxton county have given a majority ol 14 against granting licenses for the aale of ardeut spirits, Brokk Jail.—Douglass and Price, confined in the Marshall county jail, on a charge of burglary, made their escape on Saturday night. They were in seperate cells and cut their way into an apart, ment from which they escaped by unscrewing the door with a wooden wrench. IwDiCTMEjfTo, &c. —The Parkersburg News sums up the doings of the recent Quarterly Court iu that place, thus The Grand Jury iound several indictments; amon* others, one against Francis McGuire tor at tempting to kill his wile. McGuire caught his wife In the act of adultery, arid forthwith attempted to kill her, but failed to do her much injury. The case was sent on to he tried before the Circuit Court— Among the diversions, was a professional quarrel between two members ol the bar, which catnenear ending in a fight, and for which they were each fined ten dollars. Burglast.—The store of John Barrett, in Par kersburg, was broken open and robbed a few nights ago. Vibgtsians Scattered About. —The Alexan dria Gazette says: Mr. John G. Chapman, the artist, a native of this place, is at Rome, busily engaged in his profession. He has lately finished a fine large painting, "Ilagar In the Wilderness." Needham 11. Washington, formerly of King George Co. Va., has been appointed Clerk In the New York Custom House, at a salary of $1,000 per annum. Mr. H. F. Williams, a native of Dumfries, Va., and son of Maj. J. W. Williams, is successfully pur suing the business of an architect, in San Francisco, California. Dissolved.—We learn from the Staunton Spec tator that the pastoral relation which has existed for the last eight years between the Rev. B. M. Smith, D. D., add the Presbyterian Congregation of that place, was dissolved by of Lexington at its recent session. Dr. Smith will preach his farewell sermon on Sunday next. Dbeam Fulfilled.—On Thursday night last the editor of the Staunton Spectator dreamed that Hon. Thos.-11. Benton was in Staunton. On Fri day morning, sure enough, " Old Bullion " did pass through the place, and as the editor had no pre vious intimation of his visit, lio cannot account for the remarkable fulfillment of his dream. The GaAHAMs.—The Lewicburg Chronicle, al luding to the conflicting rumors in reference to the murder of Miss. Graham, says : "We car. only say this much, however, that the Grahams are not under arrest, as fhe Richmond Dispatch would have the public believe.'' It appears to us that there is some ill-nature dis played in that sentence. The Dispatch "would have the public believe" nothing but the truth, and has only published brief statements iu regard to the Graham affair, as furnished by correspondents and by newspapers. The arrest and subsequent discharge of one of the Grahams was announced several days ago, on what we presume to be good authority, and we have never seen a contradiction of it. Dr. Edward Brown, in a fit of insanity leaped lrorn a window of his lather's house, in Salitbuiy, N. C., and received injuries which caused his death, m few days ago. COMMERCIAL. MOTHER AND DAUGHTER CURED HAMPTON'S TINCTURE TRIUMPHANT: C*pon Bridge, i Hampshire county. Vs., March i, 1854. 5 Mr. E. P. Cooper—Dear Sir: Agreeable to your request, and my own desire to benefit the aliiictad, I hereby certify the i;reat relief I received from the use ot HAMPTON'S VEGETABLE TINCTURE. I was taken with a violent palf tT at ion, or rather fluttering and trembling cf the heart, w hicli contin ued several days; it seemed as though my Jteart had almost forgotten its office. The family beaafee alarm ed and procured a bottle of the ,valuable Medicine, and before I had taken near one bottle of this Tinc ture of Hampton's, I was entirely lelieved. This is the third instance of relief in my fami ly from the use cf this valuable Medicine. Two or three years ago I was laid up with ulceration or my ankle, from the effect of what is called milk leg. 1 had lost all taste and appetite, and the sore, which was some four inches up and down, and half way around my ankle, rejected every effort to heal it, until I procured Hampton's Vegetable Tincture ; one bottle of which restored my health, healed rry ankle, and I am freer from swelling than for the last thirty years. Again, one of my daughters was very low from se vere dysentery, andwlienshe began to sit up her feet commenced swelling, which increased every day ar.d began to be very painful—she used a bottle of Hamp ton's Tincture; the pains were assuaged, the swelling subsided, and her health returned—we kept her legs bai.dageU with strips of woolen until her strength returned. I have been thus particular, that others under similar circumstances might be induced to avail themselves cf this remedy. Yours with respect.
