Time: 3:53 1-2-3:57—4:08. CONVICTION OF DR. GRAHAM. Nrw York, Oct. 10 —Tbejory came in a little af ter 3 o'clock this morning, anu answered to their names. Toe prisoner and the jury were then di rected, as usual, to rise. The Clerk said, "What say you. gentlemen, do you find the prisoner at the bar guilty of the murder and felony with whieh he stands charged," to which the Foreman replied: •' We find him not guilty of murder, but Guilty of Manslaughter in the second degree." * Mr. O'Conor atked that the jury bo polled, and in answer to the question of the Clerk if that was their verdict, the whole eleven (one of the panel haviugbeen wlthdrawn.it will be recollected, yes terday,) answered "Yes." Mr. O'C., in the mean time, had banded up a pa per to the judges, alter the jury had given their verdict, and been questioned, as stated. Mr. O'- Conor gave notice to the Court that they intended to ask leave to| present a bill of exceptions, and would do so within the twenty days allowed by law. The prisoner was then remanded, and will pro bably be brought up the last day ol the term for sentence. Tbe punishment of manslaughter in the second degree is State Prison lor not less than four nor more than seven years. OUTRAGEOUS INDIAN MURDER. A lady from the neighborhood of Fort Ripley, now in St. Paul, brings information that the wife of Rev. Mr. Spencer, Missionary at Red Lake, was murdered a snort time since t/y a wur party of Sioux Indians. Mrs. Spencer was sitting in her apartment after dark, when she was tired upon and killed In stantly. She was an estimible lady, who had re sided several years with her husband as a mission ary among the Chlppewas. Red Lake is entirely within the Chippewa country, and the murderers were no doubt a war party ol Sioux, who were out in quest of Chippewa scalps.—St. Paul Min. PENNSYLVANIA ELECTIONS. Philadelphia, Oct. 10.—An election wai held throughout the State to day tor Governor, Canal Commissioner, members ot Congress, member* of the Legislature, <tc. For State officers there are three ticket* in the field—Whig, Democratic and Native American. The Know"Nothing or'-anua lion in this city aud throughout the State is distinct f rom the Native American party, and it U under stood they fcve voted lor the Whig candidate for Governor, the Native American candidate for Juigeof the Supreme Court, and the Democratic candidate for Canal Commiasionar. 'i'liu candidates for Governor are as follows: Whig, James Pollock, Democratic, Wm. lilgler; Native, B. Rush Bradford. The returns thus far received indicate that Pol lock has been elected. In the Second Congressional District Job R. Ty son, the regularly nominated Whlj candidate, is elected over Joseph R. Chandler, Independent, and J. Hamilton, Jr., Democrat. Nothing is yet known as to the result of the vote on the Prohibitory Liquor Law. There is a large majority for the measure in Philadelphia. lu Carbon county, Asa Packer, the Democratic candidate for Congress, has 200 majority. The three other counties of the district are strongly Democratic. Our telegraphic dispatches contain additional particulars. OHIO ELECTION RETURNS. Cincinnati, Oct. 10.—The election (or members ot congress, supreme judge and commissioner of public work*, took plabe in this State to day. For the latter offices the whiga hud no nominations, but It is understood they generally supported the anti. Nebraska independent democratic ticket. The majority in thi* city and county for the Ame rican Reform (Know Nothing) ticket, for city and county officers ts about 5 500 and the indications are that this is a fair index of a the result throughout the State. Cleveland, Oct. 10.—Edward Wade, the free ftoil candidate, is believed to be elected by about 4,000 majority. The anti-Nebraska ticket for State officers In Cleveland has about 1000 majority. SOUTH CAROLINA ELECTION, Columbia, S. C., Oct. 10.—The election for mem hers ot the State Legislature took place in this State to day. The Hon. John L. Preston is elected State Senator from this district, by a decided majority. The vote for Senator in Charleston has not yet been fully received, but the general impression pre vails there that Mordecai, who is believed to have received the Know Nothing vote, has been elected from that district. FLORIDA ELECTION. Columbia, Oct. 10.—The returns from Florida indicate a complete democratic triumph in that State, by increased majorities. I.eon county gives Giles Maxwell, the democratic candidate for Con gress, Bfi majority; Walulla, Maxwell 36 majority; Jefferson, Maxwell 24-J majority; Madison, Maxwell d-' majority. The entire majority for Maxwell Is about 500. The Legislature is strongly democratic. THE MAINE ELECTION, Po*tland, Oct. 9.—The State of Maine states that Mtlliken, Fusionist, probably elected in the (iih Con gressional district, owing to the informality of the returns from some plantations. FIRE AT POTTSVILLE. Pottsville, Pa., October 10.—A large lire is ra- Sing here, having commenced at nite o'clock to-night. The office of the Miners' Journal is burnt. The fire destroyed four or five dwellings and seve ral stables. Mr. Brannon, of the Miners' Journal, estimate* his loss at 810,000 aud is only partially in sured. The fire is supposed to have been the work of an incendiary. DESTRUCTIVE FIRE Springfield, Mass., Oct. 10—An incendiary fire of a woodshed of the Hou«atonic Railroad at Great Harrington, on Saturday night, destroyed 1000 cords of wood, damaged the depot building, and burnt the stores ol'Grangor, Hill &. Co , J. F. Sc T. J. Sandford, the printing office of the Berkshire Courier, act! the editor's dwelling. The loss is es timated at $50,000, aud is mostly insured. KNOW-NOTHING VICTORY IN N.. JERSEY. Nkwark, N. J., Oct. 10.—About 6000 votes were polled at the corporation electlou to-day. Horace J. Ponier, Whig and Know-Nothing, is eiectid Mayor by a iarge majority. The Whigs and Know- Nothing* have literally swept the cily. STORM NEAR CLEVELAND. Clevkland, Oct 10 —A storm on Lake Superior on the 3d inst., carried nway 400 feet of the pier, with a large amount of freight. Los*, €15,000. Calais, Mb., Oct. 9.—At Robbinstnn, lest night, a new *hip of 500 tons owned by Beth G. Low, and nearly ready to be launched, wa* destroyed by (ire. She wa* partly insured. THE FEVER AT NEW ORLEANS. Nkw Oklkans, Oct 9.- The deaths during the week ending at noon to day, have been 350, of which MF7 were of yellow fever. LATER FROM RIO JANEIRO. Nkw Yobk, Oct. 10.—The *hip Ino, from Rio Janeiro, with date* to September 3d, arrived this afternoon. The country continued remarkably healthy. The frigate Savannah and the corvette Decatur were at Rio, and tailed in company with the barque J.lnda,*for Baltimore. The barque Amazon, of Bal timore, bad arrlred at Clenlawgo*. Escape of the Ciew ! UNCERTAINTY AS TO THE PATE OP THE PASSENGERS. New York, Oct. 11.—The steamer Union has arrived, with Havre dates to the 27th of September. She brings the startling intelligence, that on the 27th ult., the steamship Arctic ran into a ateam propeller on the ocean. She com menced leaking rapidly, and her fires were soon extinguished. Boats were launched, and were immediately filled by the crew and a few passengers, while Capt. Luce and the mates remained behind and constructed a raft. A sadden panic now seized upon those on board the steamer, and numbers got on the raft and the remaining boat. In three min utes the Arctic sunk. All in the boat were saved. The boat which last left the steamer was picked up by the bark Huron, and the pas sengers were transferred to the ship Stag, w,.icl. had reached New York. TLu fate of tbe »ther five boats is unknown. Those saved are principally the crew. The steam propeller was much damaged. She wa 3 fuh of passengers, whose fate is not known. [The foregoing dispatch is very indefinite. From the disconnected sentences transmitted to us, we can only infer that the Arctic is lost; a portion of her crew and passengers saved; while the fate of the remainder is still a mys tery.} [second dispatch.] ADDITIONAL PARTICULARS OF THE LOSS OF THE ARCTIC. Mr. C. was in Washing ton on Tuesday and expressed his perfect con fidence in the safety of the vessel. ELECTION NEWS: Baltimore, Oct. 11. —Returns from the Pennsylvania elections show immense Whig gains. The general impression is that Pol lock is elected Governor by a majority of 20,000. Pollock is the Whig candidate, but has been supposed to entertain Kuow-Nothing principles. From Ohio, we learn that tta American Reform ticket has a majority of .'OOO in Ham ilton county. A telegraphic dspatch says this may be taken as an indication of the re sult throughout the State.
