INSTRUCTORS. In the outset of aa Institute of thi* character, lay ing claim to pablic confidotce, withoat heving had opportunity to earn a reputation, it seems proper that the 1 rni.ee* should give distinct information regard ing the teacher*, into whose charge pareats are in vited to commit their daughter*. Rev. BASIL MANLY, Ja , President of the Instl tnte, is extensively known a* the Pastor for four year* past, of the First Baptist Church in thi* city.— He i* a Master of Ait* of the Univ of Alabama; a graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary, ud has had mnch familiarity with the operations of the higher institution* of learning in cur eoontry. Hi* undividedenergie* will be given to the leetitute, asd his attention will be directed not merely to the clasc* which he may himself instruct, but also to the progress of every scholar, in every department of instruction from the highest to the lowest. Mr. R. P. Latham, of Culpeper county, a Master of Arts of the University or Virginia, retigned the chair of Mathematicf, 4tc., in the Columbian College, to accept the Professorship of Ancient Languages and Physical Science* ia thi* Instiiute. He bring* to hi* new position the experience of *everal year* of previous occupation as teacher, and the worm recom mendation of those with whom he ha* been associ ated. The ample a d beautiful set of apparatu*, which baa been procured, will lend him unusual fa cilities fo instruction, it is not surpassed, we pre sume, for practical purposes «f illustration by the apparatu* of any college in the State Mrs Emma Holcombe, of the celebrated Institute of Mr. Bacon, at La Grange, Go., and previously en gaged as a teacher for a number of years in Louisi ana, will take charge of the higher English brunches. Mia* Elizabeth V.Nelson of Norfolk, Va, wa* engaged for some time as assistant of Miss Robiueoa, in her well known *cbool in that city. Her atten tion will also be devoted to the Ent!i»h branches Mica Jane C. Stanaru ha* established a repnta tion in thi* city by the school foi young ladies, un der her own management, which need* au com ment She will give instruction in Engliah studies. Mademoiselle Mina Chollet, a niece of Prof. Arnold Guyot of Harvard College, hit enjoyed such a position, both in French and American circlet, as to give her nDusual advantages. She will instruct in French and German; and, as she wit] reside in the Institute, every opportunity for acquiring an accu rate pronunciation and ready use of the French lan guage will be afforded to the boarders. The system of instruction will be practical, designed to lead the pupils, even in the earliest stages of study, to u«e tlie language readily, and so, to learn French aomuwhat as a 1- rench child would learn it. M. Joseph Michabu, a well known instructor in Modern Languages, of this city, will give lessons in Spanish and Italian. Mr. John Dunderdale, Organistof St. Paul's ami Musical Instructor in Mr. lloge's school lor aoino years, has been selected to take charge of the Musi cal Department, and his long residence here, and eminent success, preclude any necessity for remarks. He will be assisted by his daughter. Miss Emily Dunderdale. She hus just concluded a coarse of musical training under the celebrated Madame Se guin, by whom she is h'i-'hly commended as compe tent to reilect honor both upon herself and her teacher. Miss Sallie Sully enjoys the deserved reputation of being an excellontperformetacd instructor on the Harp, and will give lessons on f&at instrument Other musical teachers will be provided if necer sary; or if parents prefer any other Professors of Mu. sic, residing in the city, their aervicea can be ob tained Mrs. Emily Gri'bu, formerly of Richmond, and re. certly of the Valley Union' Seminary, Botetouit Springs, Va , will give instruction in Drawing, Paint ing, Ornamental Needle Work, ite. Her skill in these branches, and her energy as a teacher, are am ply attested. Mrs. Georgianna Monroe, of Winchester, Va., has been selected at Matron. She has filled this im portant position with great sacceaa in other schools, rtfch as Miss English's, Georgetown, and Mr. Baker's at Winchester. In tine, the purpose expressed in the outset of this enlerpriae has been steadily kept in view—to have none but the very best teachers connected with the and no pains norexpenae has been spared, that seemed necessary to attain this object. And, ss the design was to obtain the best teachers that could be met with, from whatever quarter they might come, it is a gratifying fact that so many of these are from the South. DEPARTMENT 8 OF INSTRUCTION. The course of study is extensive and liberal It is de signed to afford to jauug ladies opportunities for mei.- tal training corresponding to those which young men enjoy in our best colleges; only such modifications being introduced as the different, though not leßs re sponsible sphere which a well educated woman must occupy, seems to demand. Jn the Preparatory Department, the usual English studies will be pursued 11 ia proposed that the more advanced classes of this D epartment may take the initiatory steps in learning French. This will give them a great advantage when they come to the mere scientific study of the language. In the Collegiate Department, which contemplates a four years' course, the higher English branches will be proaecnted, together with the Sc'ences and Ancient or Modern Languages. To those who have successfully completed this course—including at least one other language. Ancient or Modern, besides Eng lish—a Diploma will be given, at the Annual Com men cement. I n the Ornamental Department, Vocal Music will be taught to the whole school, a* a part of the regular course, and without any extra charge. It is relied upon as a valuable coadjutor-in promoting cheerful ness. good order and health. Instruction will be given on the Organ, Harp, Pia no and Guitar; in Solo and Quartette Singing; and in Drawing, Painting, Ornamental Needlework, fee. BOARDERS IN THE INSTITUTE. The young ladies who board in the Institute will be regarded as meir. bers of the family of the Presi dent, and will be expected to conform to such re strictions and rnles as seem required by this principle. It is deemed unnecessary, therefore, to preacribe any detailed code of regulations in regard to the conduct of the boarders. They will be simply required to act at young ladies. Those who make the earliett application have choice of rooms. Though they are all fnrniahed alike, there may still be some preference between them. Young ladies (or their parenta for them) are deaired to chooae their room-mates, but where no aelection is made, the President will assign them. TERMS PER SESSION OF NINE MONTHS.
