Vaat and varied inter «tts are committed to his hands. No man can, In K o*d faith, perform the dutlea which are devolved by tba Constitution npon the American Executive, nnless be possess commanding talenta, aonnd judgment and great political experience. It 1* cot the theory r.or deaign of our government that the President shall be, like an Knglish monarch, a mere puppet in tba banda of the ministry. He i* himself the real and responsible head of the gov ernment. Any party which pnta a man In theF.x' a-utive chair, to be a bliad tool of a superior cab loet minister, commits a baae fraud npon our Insti tution* and people, and any man who suffera him self to be thus imposed upon the country, la a vile impostor and pretender, who would be willing to ««ll his native land, or hi* soul, If he haa one, for thirty pieces of njlver. In'old times, only the first men were spoken of for the Presidency. George Washington! Why, it is profanation to place in tha seat where he sat any but a man pre-eminent for wisdom and virtue. Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, James Madisor, all belonged to the race of giants. Think of it!— John C. Fremont aspiring to the vacant chair of George Washington! If those aspirations be gratified, the problem of man's capacity for self government will be so thoroughly settled, that tha individual who hereafter announces it aa a part of his political creed, will become forthwith tha vie* tim ot a writ if bivntiro inguirendn. Who is Fremont? First a naval achoolmatter; then an engineer ; then an inaubordinate army of ficer ; then an explorer of Rocky Mountain* ; then for thirty day*, a Senator. It ia a received axiom, both in civil and military government, that he who would command must first learn to obey.— lias Fremont ever learned that lesson, ao india. pensablo In bis own particular profession T No ! lie was an insubordinate army officer and in con sequence of hia iaaubordinatlon, waa compelled to leave the service. 1* this your crack soldier ? I* be the man to set up aa a hero J If he had poa- tbo military skill of Winfield Scott and the personal proweaa of Zachary Taylor, he could never have been trusted with a high position even in military life, until like them he had learned the lesson of discipline and subordination.— Even thon, he could bava had no claiias to civil honor* on account of, military distinction. But he was neither a Scott nor a Taylor ; be never atoned for bis mulish and refractory spirit of dis obedience by any act of military skill and daring Lieut. Schenck of the navy, declares that be did not even aid bis countrymen in the Indian battles in California, but uniformly arrived too late to ehare either the dangers or the honors of tbe con test. Tbis Is the Black Republican nominee for tbe Presidency I A candidate worthy of tbe party ! What 1a hie political experience ? Thirty day a in tbe U. S. Senate I Did he apeak there? Did he ever open hia oracular jawa, except to say aye and no? Did be ever study tbe principles of the govern ment and constitution of the 11. States? If so, ou what occasion did be aay or write one word tbat manifested the slightest knowledge of hia subject? Tbe truth if, no one, with a grain of common sense or common honesty, pretend* tbat Fremont has the requisite capacity for a seat in the t*. S Senate, or even In that bear garden, the Houae of Representatives—much leaa the Preaidency of the United States. Of course, then, this man, ao totally destitute of statesmanship and experience, must, if elected, throw himself wholly iuto the band* of the mis ter spirit of his Cabinet. It Is well understood that Fremont, If President, will make Wm. H. Seward Secretary of State, Seward could never hare obtained the Presidency. He was too odious and intolerable. Freoiont, the new man, it was hoped, eould run the race successfully, and then Seward would be his Premier, and the real President of the United States, having it in his power so to play his cards, as to secure tho succession. This then is the prospect, nay, the certainty before us, If Fremont be elected. William H. Seward, in alt but name, the next President of the United States! Under the administration of a political Imbecile like Fremont, it is obvious that we must look to the Cabinet, not the President, as the Government. A partial lit>t of that Cabinet has appeared in some of the Northern journala; for the abolitionists confident of victory, are already parcelling out the spoils. Seward, Secretary of State; Giddings, Secretary of the Treasury, and other abolitionists, equally rank, for the other offices. The people are therefore about to decide in the election of Presi dent whether they shall be ruled over by Seward, Oiddings, Sumner, Burlingame &. Co., or by na ttonal and conservative men. As a matter of course) the abolition and sectional President must select his counsellors from his own party and see tion , nor, if he could venture on the insult of Making i Southern man to become a member of an abolition Cabinet, is it likely that any Southern man would hesitate to repel at onea a proposition replete with degradation and Infamy. We cannot, however, believe that there is any chance of tbe success cf this infamous conspiracy •gainst tbe dignity of tbe American Government and tbe peace and onion of the States. The peo ple of the North cannot be prepared to push mat ters to such an extreme against the South. Tbey mast see that the Southern States would be star tied by such a demonstration into a position which would render the Union at once a nominal thing. We may be mistaken. Bnt if the Free Soilers are benton "subjugating the South to freedom," bet ter that tbe attempt should be made now than de ferred to a period when the North shall be even stronger, and the South weaker, than at present Better decide tbe quarrel at once, than hand it down as an heir loom of discord and peril, perhaps of utter ruin, t» our posterity. Adjocrrment of Conoris" —The present ses sion of Congress ends by agreement on Mon nest. I)af.anrt'L Situation —We yesterday gave the details of a very singular confession, by John O Law ler, a soldier of the United Mates army. Our readers will recollect the substance o> the confession, which was, that he was formerly a schoolntas'er in Ireland, where be murdered a girl mined Maty Dunn, after first violating her person, and escaped to this country. The fol lowing certificate from Dr. Carper, a leading and well known physician in Botetourt county, is seleated from many of equal respectability and force: FmcAiTLg, BOTBTOuaT Co,, Va-1 July 25th, 1855. I Having been called on by the proprietors of the "Craig Alum Springs," to express my opinion of it* medicinal virtues, I nereby state, that I have examin ed the analysis of the water, (made by Prof. Boothe ef Philadelphia,) and brieve it well adapted to care dis eases requiring a tonic or alterative aation on the sys tem; ana can further state that I have known seme re markable cures effected by its use in acrofuloaa affec tions and diseases ef the digestive organs.
