WhtUt the dispatch la gratlfled to know that tU courte commandite approbation and friendship of * TMt multitude of Intelligent and appreciative reader., it to not unaware of the fact that It ha. been the object of occasional anl madversion by pereone under the influence of po. liticsl excitement. The Dispatch to .u.Uined by the ooneeiou.neM that It bae hone.tiy endeavored to be Ju*t and impartial In it* course. It to willing that all men »bould have their opinion*, and re ceive* the occasional and rare manifestation. of dl.plea.ure a. affording a pleaalng variety to aaky which, but for theee patting cloud*, would be no notonou.ly and intolerably radiant. The Dispatch chertobe* no hostilities; it love* Its friends, and it wishes so w ell even to its enemies that It would not deprive them of their animosity so long as it affords them comfort and satisfaction. Tbns at peace with the whole world, and eminently con tented with its own condition, the Dispatch is prepared to eelebrate, in a highly patriotic spirit, this great anniversary. The Celebration To-Day. The celebration today will present one of the moat interesting military pageants ever witnessed In this city. The entire Ist Regiment of Volun teen will be out In full dreaa, including the several companies of juniors, which constitute a feature of military display peculiar, we believe, to thia city. Some montba since a corps of very small boy* was established in this city under the direction and in struction of Capt. Dimmock. It took the name of the Guard of the Metropolis. Their rapid acquire ment of the rules and tactics of military discipline was surprising to all who saw them drill; and their first appearance in a public parade took the city by surprise. Their example had ita effect upon the youth of the city, apd the result was the formation of a company of Junior Blues and another of Ju nior Guards. They constitute sort of nursery de. partments for those popular companies, the Blues and Young Guard, in which are brought up and educated soldiers that will become the brightest ornaments of their ranks. All these juvenile com panies exhibit in a marked manner the bearing and port of soldiers. They remind one of those youths enlisted b£ Napoleon who, displayed not only such facility in learning the art of war; but who were so brave, enduring and obstinate in the straggles and conflicts of battle. Among the interesting scenes of to-day, besides the Tournament, under the auspices of the gallant Henrioo Dragoons, will be a grand drill by the Ar tillery, Captain C. Richardson, as Light Artille ry with horses, each gun being drawn by four horses. There will be a drill by the Junior com panies in battalion ; and the Guard of the Metrop oils will give an exhibition of Infantry drill. These will all take place at and near the Fair grounds. The day will, in fact, be celebrated in a glorious manner, worthy the commemmoration ef the clo- sing scene of the great Revolutionary struggle. The Mechanic*' Exhibition. Tbe preparation for the exhibition of the Me ebanics has been actively going on, and will be completed in good time for the opening, which will take place to-morrow night. Exhibitors are requested to bring in their articles for exhibition to-day, and as early as possible. The display will, wa anticipate, be very creditable to those con cerned. The interest of the exhibition will be im' mensely enhanced by the grand painting of the Bchool of Athens, which will bo at one end of the great HalL Virginia Halt and Plaster. Among the benefits flowing from the Virginia and Tennessee Railroad, are the greater develops meat and more extensive use of the Virginia Salt and Plaster, of (he Smyth and Washington mines. Specimens of the Piaster have been brought to thia city, which compare favorably with that from Mew England and Nova Scotia; and Col Preston baa consigned some of the table Salt manufactur ed at his wells to Messrs. Williams <£, Brother, (see their advertisement) This Salt is the finest that has ever been exhibited in this city, and when once tried will be preferred, we are sure, both for its palatableness and whiteness, to any other that is sold here. The Elections.—The latest adviceß from tie elections show that the Democrats have a majority in Pennsylvania of some 2,000 or 3,000 They elect 15 out of 25 Congressmen, being a gain of 9.
