With the reassembling of this body of venera ble sages and immmaculate patriots, the discussion of the slavery subject has been again revived with freah vigor and spirit. Scarcely have the alarm bells of the late Presidential election died away, before the country is aroused from its short nap oy a luaty roar of the Congressional tocsin, enongh to wakua the dead. We had hoped that the huge annual salary wbieli these magnanimous gentlemen voted themselves at the last session, would have made them comfortable and content- ed. But they are nothing without the "nigger Give them champagne, burgundy, port and Ma • deira, they will still clsmor for their blackberry eordial. The whole country is tired and disgusted with the African question ; it panta for repose and peace, but that is just what Congress is determiutd it shan't have. It seems resolved to recoguise no other American interest than the interest of poli ticians, vthich Interest would utterly perish but fur the eternal hobby of abolitionism. Well, let them go ahead ! They will abolish something after awhile, we have no doubt; but, judging from present appearances, they are more likely to abolish the interests of the white raee, aad Anglo-Saxon liberty and civilization on this continent, thau African slavery. Would to hea ven that members of Congress could be rational and practical, like other men; that they could even have a lucid interval of a single month, in which they oould dlscovor that the business of twenty three millions of white men is of more consequence than that of three millions of negroes ! But that is not to be expected. The Telegruyh We see a great many notices of Hughes'Printing Telegraph, which is certainly a 7eryj wonderful invention. It is represented that it prints clearly aad distinctly and with unerring accuracy all the messages sent by it, and that on a single line met stigte nan be tent both teay» at the same urns. When this peculiarity of messages passing in opposite directions over the same wire was lirst claimed for Hughes' invention, it was net credited ; because it was considered an impossibility. Several gen tlemen bear testimony to the faet that they have seen it done. The editor of the Baltimore American saw this on a wire one mile long. Mr. H. himself cannot explain how the counter torrents pass without interruption of either; but only knows from Jfelual experiment that they do. Another merit claimed for the apparatus is that an operator may set in motion a maohine.at the opposite end of the liue from that where he is stationed. So that, in the absence of the opeiator from the office to which a message is sent, the messsge may nevertheless be printed off and ready when he enters ; or, as l t is printed, may be read by any one, whether ope rator or not, who has charge of the tffice iu his absence. A company in New York U putting tip a line between New Yoik and Philadelphia, to be worked with Hoghee' patent; and a test ii now making witbiton a line 700 miles long, with a view cf teeing whether it ia applicable to tbe propoaed line of telegraph acroan tbe ocean.
