Knglish pa|*er* by j h e Oanada teem notices and niscuneiooi about the late fight. The London Tune-, has a letter lleorge Wilkes on behalf of He.nan, in t the American claims tho belt, and in )ii lighting for it again. He stt vs he will ribe liberally to gh.-y Sayers another Ntt the '• champum - belt he must have. W declines to receive any gait purchased * English tor him. a coi-re»j_*ondent of ew York Herald says ; nan went lo the Times ofhce personally Btrndict the Hfitenieiit that he was us for a draw. We are informed that he I interview With the editor. The result • lei lei- was most curious; bo was iniiii with tellers ot every description. The rated payer which contained the Ameri can account was returned marked with all aorts ol remarks, more forcible than elegant: many letters contained threats that if Ileerraii ever entered the ringagui;. he should not leave it alive, and that they would shoot him like a dog. <)u the other hand, the editor of Bell's Life has received letters from nil parts of the United Kingdom containing remittances of an immense amount for a testimonial to Sayer.*. On Friday morning the different seconds X backers of Hie prmcioals root at Bell's . The reporter of the London Times, Mr. Howling, the referee, and the President of the railway wnich conveyed the parties to the tight, were there. Mr. Sayer* was there, his race looking very well, but his arm was in a sling. Mr.lleei.au was not there, although we saw him that morning out riding, and ap parently perfectly well. The various parties evidently were not on theim.st friendly terms. Savers eyed ihe Americans very savagely, and did not seem in Ins nsuai good spirits. The President of the railway gave in his re turn, and ii« total amount ot tickets sold proved to be seven hundred and sixty, at $LS each. There were seventy free tickets, which were given to the press antl the ring keepers; not a single American correspondent received a ticket, but each had to paj bis 815. The Presi dent showed several forged tickets, and said there hail been probably over one hundred used. Tins will account ior the presence of the pickpock-ets. The total amount of money to be divided urns SlU£B3— the railway keeping one half, the other being divided between Savers and Heeaaa. Macttonald received fjJRjSOO in gold lor Heenan. After having settled this business the fight became the subject lirvnan's friends wanted ' the light toeoroeoffthis week, or ci.-c the party objecting slioulrt lose. The rules of the ring are that theHgbt must come off" Within the week or all bets are to be withdrawn. Of course the betters on Sayers, who had laid their money two to one against Hitman desired to make fresh bets, as the odds could not lie so greet. The friends of Mr. Sayers finally pre y ruled upon Mr. Howling, the editor of Bells Life, to accept a certificate from a physician that Sayers' arm was not in a condition to tight, and to wan until it was well. The friends of Heenan replied that |f Mr. Heenan s eyes land been blind, no such favor would have been shown hini.antl that such a course as was recommended was against all the rules of the ring. They were, however, compelled to ac quiesce. Mr. Sayers look but little part iv the discussion. None can doubt his braveiyorhis willingness to fight the moment lie is in con dition. //. mh/. the blows which Heemanlevelled at him were terrific, and that once when hisse conets !i<t-d hint from the round fee i oitld not se tbe ring or anything about him. Many of the friends of both parties suggest that Sayers shall present the belt to Heenan out of respect to him as a brave man, and lor his pluck in coming ucross the Atlantic, and thai after. wards Heenan shall give it hack. Mv Heenan says that may he ali very pretty, but he has been accused of want of coinage, ami he does not intend to go back without the belt became for. Thought will most prohttMy be renewed, and that within two or three weeks. We are afraid poor Tom will get the worst of it. Tiie number of persons ol rank who were at Hi.'tight was unexampled in a scene of that kind. Theeditoroi BeWs Lit, was surround ed by these distinguished iioblenieii, the Mar quis ol Stafford being on his right, while the fluke of Beaufort was on his left. Many ot tin* K.uis who were announced asheingpre seathaeaaddressed letters to the papers de nying it, the Karl of Kgliugiowii being of that number. Two religious papers charge the Bishop Of Oxford with being present'; he is well known as being fond of sport, and there. tore the public would not be greatly surprised if it should turn out to be true*. We clip iroin the principal papers here their opinions of the fight, and thus conclude our notice ol this unexampled excitement in the pugilistic world. TonaSuyera was received to-day by the stock broken, at the Kauai Enahajse*. He arrived there at tine o'clock P. M. Tbe scene was utu.e eXCitlug. iiesitles the portly and CttgUl- Bed moneyed men, who had assembled to tlo honor io the representative of muscle, there was an immense crowd Of the imperial mass whii shoaled till their lungs were hoarse.-- Savers, upon his arrival, was presented with Lit ti by tbe stock-brokers of London, and .{,'.» was received from ttie Liverpool Stock-Ex cbange. Tlte London Star says : The meichants of Liverpool, without any solicitation, voluntarily subscribed for him the handsome sum ol £79. On the same day a gentleman called at the office of a contempo rary, and letta handled guineas lor him as a present for his matchless performance; the proprietor of the Victoria ami Albert Tavern, {Uolborn, has presented him with a handsome silver cup; Morrissey ana performed his pro mise, aud gi* en Tom his massive gold Albert guard: another gentleman has promised him n hundred pounds as a reward of merit; and several noblemen and gentlemen have deter mined to get up a subscription lor the purpose of parchasiag him an annuity for hwgeme ness throughout all his engagements, but more especially for the intrepidity, scieni c and man ly prowess, by which he has just distinguish ed himself iv his contest with Heenan. A dispatch lrom Boston states ihat the an nouncement that the Canada did not leave Halifax till midnight ou Wednesday was sup posed to have been made to secure Morrissey from rough treatment ou his arrival. She left Halifax at nine in the evening, and arrived at Boston at six, when no one expected her. A large police force were ordered to be at the wharf to preserve order. It is also stated that Morrissey got quietly ashore and left in the morning train for \lbauy, to the great disap pointment of the "roughs." This was a de ception to turn the attention away from Mor rissey in New York. He arrived iv that city Friday altt-ruooii. [ Balloon Ascension— Perilous Position of the Jgrsumnt Massg, Wells, who has been making balloon ascensions, on a small scale, in different portions of ihecoujitry, for*everal months past, recently made oue**at Jackson ville, Alabama, which came near proving his last. The Republican says. The temporary furnace for inflating his bal loon was ert'Cted on tbe public square, north of the Court-House. A large number of per sons ot tbe town and viciuity collected at various places around the square to witness the teat. The inflation commenced about two o'clock, aud was continued about two hours, the furnace being supplied during ihe time wuli wo.>d and pine, and alcohol lm rued sev eral time* to hasten the process. Wheu fully nillateti, Al. Wells got into his hoop and bas ket, which was suspended by small cords some"- or 11) teet befow the balloon, and gay v orders to those holding it down to "let go." In lining the bottom over the chimney of the fur nace, however, the lower edge of the cloth of which it was made took fire. Some of those iiotdiug it told the aronaut, and tried to put it out, but he not understanding ihemagain gave orders to t go," which they did. He arose rapidly and majestically, waving his cap over his head, while the numerous spectator* below rent the air with their loud and repeat ed huzzas. It reached au altitude where M. Wells did not look much larger thau a maun baud, and was wafted by a gentle breeze in a northeast direction, and landed in a large oak tree about a mile from the court-bouse. Mo us. W. discovered the lire when the balloon had goi several hundred leet high, and used all the means in bis power to effect a speedy laudiug, tearing the lire might burn the cords and let him fall. Soon alter landing, the lire which perhaps bad been kept from running up the balloon by its rapid motion, biased up nud eoou burnt most of it to ashes. When be struck the tree be caught some limbs, while bis bal loon lellover ou the other side aud below, out of his reach, and also out of the reach of those who were soon ou the ground, and assisted him, not without considerable difficulty, to get down out of tbe tree. The above facts we gather lrom the Mobile Advertiser of the*Jilth ultimo.— Alexandria Gazette. Painful (Use ok ri.isj mn R eood deal ot excitement, says the Pittsburg (Pa) Chronicle, of May :;, was created in the neigh boring town of Kutler, the other day by a re port to theetrect that John M. Hippie,a mem ber of the Builer bar, and Chairman of the lie-publican Committee, had eloped with a Miss Hrinker, of that place, deserting his wife and carrying away with him large sums of money, with which, in his capacity as lawyer he had been entrusted. At first' the rumor was regarded as a canard, but facts have since come to light which go far toward confirming Its truth. It appears that Hippie came to this city under pretence that he had some hasiness to transact which required his attention, and meeting with Miss Br inker who had come here before lnm, the guilty pair started lor parts unknown. He wrote a letter to his wife from this place, in which he avowed Ins intention not to return, coolly remarking that he would "never again look on the green fields of ins childhood !" It is not known what di rection the fugitives took, but it is believed that their destination, when leaving here, was California. Hippie, though a young man en joyed a large practice, and was, as tbe Herald status, on the high road to wealth. The amount of money which he carried of! is not precisely known, but it is beiieyed to reach three thou sand dollars. He took with him his eldest chiltl. leaving the youngest with its mother, who feels keenly the terrible wrong that has been done her. All the Government troops now here, including a battalion of marines and the ordnance men at the Arsenal, as well as the Washington Eight Infantry, and'probe lily several oilier l'tsll let 1 ollluteer corps, will form v portion of the escort. It is understood that unless the koaitoke should be intercepted by some Government vessel, bearing contrary* orders, she will proceed to ,\ew York, as here tofore Indicated, but where orders await her to proceed immediately to Norfolk. MIRAf.ES IN THK STREETS OK CHICAGO.— The Chicago Times says that almost every day, when the sun is at or near tbe Meridian, and the sky clear, a beautiful optical illusion may be seen by looking westward in any of the east aud west streets, where the view is uninter r tip ted tor a longdistance.
