To this end, he advertises that he is en gaged in getting out an autobiography, to include a full account of his life, all the circumstances of his murders, etc., etc. It is reported that he has applied to Barnum to buy the clothing in which he murdered his parents and wife! Suddenly, at her home in Hanover county, on the 20th February, Mrs. MARY O. COSBY, in the seventy-fourth year of her age. She was domestic m her habits, quiet and unobtrusive in her man ners, and had endeared herself to the circle in which she moved. Especially was she tenderly loved in the relationship of mother and mistress.— Having been left a widow many years since, she found all her energies taxed in rearing a large fami ly of children; and well did she perform her duty. She guided her affairs with peculiar discretion, and her five sons and one daughter, now surviving, can attest the value of her influence in training them up in habits of sobriety and industry. She wasa kind mistress, and was much loved by her servants It w:i.> affecting, as her body was interred near the sj'.jt where she was horn, to witness the unaffected grief of the children and grandchildren and large group of weeping servants. She will be missed from the home she so much loved, and which she renden d so nappy. May Cod graciously sustain this stricken family, and may all be prepared to meet an unbroken circle La the heavenly world. • T. Killed, in the trenches in front of Petersburg, August (i, 1861, Private A. M. JOHNSON, Otey Battery, aged twenty year;;. The subject of this notice was cut down by a fatal shot from the encmv while in defence of his coun try, and has thus add< d another name to the list of noble martyr, who have so willingly sacrificed their Ives en its altar. The writer of this feeble tribute doubts whether there ever lived or died a truer patriot, soldier and gentleman than he, having ever eadeated himself to those with whom he was acquainted. He has Left many sorrowing hearts to mount tkt-ir irn ptrable los*. Well may it be said of him tha*, Loving his country better than life, he has sacrificed tla.- one for the honor of the other. He joined the O'.ej" Battery when it was first organized, and, as a true soldier, never shrank from any hard ship or danger. In camp he was ever cheerful and hopeful—on the battle-field, cool, courageous and Irdd. But now he has fallen, and though we may never more si* with him around the hearthstone, or gaae on hi> op< n manly brow, we feel that he has fallen in a glorious cause, and wiO ever cherish his memory as one of whom we may rightly feel proud. (jli; the nigh*, ths tears, the groans* of anguish which have arisen, and still continue to arise, from an oppress* d and insulted people as, day after day, and hour after hour, they witness tho pride and h<»pe of our Confederacy ruthlessly and brutally slain. How many a mother's heart has been made to bleed at the sight of the maigled corpse of her onoe noble buy, and how many and fervent a prayer leu been breathed by the widow and orphan to a just God that these wrongs may be avenged. And as -wo think of tin -—our noble and brave boy, who has thua fuller., and deplore, as we must, Ins un timely end we rejoice to know that God is just, and booh the day ol ietributk.it will come. May he bless and support his sorrowing family and friends. Hi-, funeral will be preached at Branch's Church, in Chesterfield county, by the Rev. O.
