Cicero Parks Cunningham, a gentleman so far as appearances arc concerned, has been operating hero very extensively on the confidence principle, and has succeeded in swindling several of onr Citizens. lie represents himself to be a lawyer from \ ickaburg. Miss., about to remove North and settle in Haltimoro and practice his profession. After ingratiating himself into ? the affections of his proposed victim, ho asks a loan of some stated amount of money, or credit for goods, &C.; ami to fortify his demand, he shows a letter dated Vicksburg, and which purports to be from bis sister, Alice Cunningham, as it is signed. This letter advises "dear brother" that ten thousand dollars has been deposited subject to his order, and that his library has been sent on. Cunningham, of course, only wants a loan or credit until ho can receive his remittances. Ho by this operatiqp ob tained a quantity of clothing, &c., from Mr. W. 11. Sigston. The latter, becoming advised of Cunningham's truo character, preferred charges, and detectives Clarvoe and McDevitt were assigued the duty of arresting the fellow. They traced him to Baltimore, and through the assistance of Smith, Pier son, and West, detectives of that city, succeeded in arresting him. He was brought back ?to this city, and had a hearing before Justice Tucker, wbo?com mitted him to jail for a further hearing. When arrested, Cunningham attempted to destroy the letter purporting to be from his sister, but the detectives prevented it, and secured the letter.?National Intelli gencer. Internal Revenue.?The receipts from internal revenue on Saturday were $453, j 224.78, making the total amount for the I week $2,450,466.90, and the total amount j since the beginning of the present liscal year $240,798,808.20. We learn from our exchanges that the fanners in the Connecticut Valley will not probably go so largely into the cultivation of tobacco this year as they did last, but ? will make their principal crops corn and j potatoes. Most of last year's tobacco crop lias been sold, but at very low prices. Confederate Colonel G. J. The Surratt Trial Commenced. "Washington, May 27.?John H. Surratt was brought into the Criminal Court to day to be tried for conspiracy to kill Pre sident Lincoln. His brother Isaac had been brought from Texas, and was in the court-room. The defence was ready, but the United States was not.
