There arc now eight walcr-po?\er anej ono

the steam ,>ump from the canal.
Thc works are generally In enod wot kin//

the reservoirs. During tbe past summer
for several weeks the river was perhaps as
low as it over was, durinjr which time thc
power of tbe pumps was so lessened that
In order to supply the hitcher paits of ibo
city tbe old reservoir was tbrown out ol
use. Some few poi Hons of the city were
without water, but sufficiently near oilier
sources tbat, in case of tire, thev could be
reached hy thc tire engine*. No serious
damage occurred otber than the stoppage
of a few factories and onVr buildings.
The reservoirs are both in very (rood con?

the yotb of October last a .severe s'orm oe
curled, doing considerable climate to the
tarfBg of the hew reservoir, all of which
has tiecn repaired and is now in ;*ood con?

The street-main*, tire-plu;r*, ami stop?

Hie tire-plii<>e: and stopcocks were repaired
durras the year. As IImsc are of 1 ne ut?
