Clipper: Advertising for business is precisely the same as fertilizers for farms. Much money, however, is thrown away in both instances. If an epherinal circular purporting to be a newspaper, is cast about loosely, it is just about its effective as covering land witli old boot legs and/ tomato cans. A well estab lished family paper, properly con ducted, is the best medium in the world to reach the people. Breckenridge Gazette: We drop ped into the Wahpeton rink one day this week and found Mr. A. N. Eshelman the genial manager busily engaged in assisting new beginners and looking after the repairs which were being made on tlie building. Esli. is the right man in the right place and deserves credit for the many improvements which he has made to the premises since taking charge, about one month ago. New Orleans and Return.' Capt. Gregg of the Fargo & South ern, says that TRK TIMES may state that his road lias made a 50 day limit to New Orleans and return for $43.40, via 26 different routes. As well as a second arrangement there and return, good till June first, for 65.9.10. On to New Orleans. Agent St. John of the Manitoba road says to us that his road has ar radged for a 40' day limit to New Orleaus including 26 different routes there and return, for $43.40. As well as a second arrangement good till June first, there and re turn, for $59.10. The Fargo & Southern. In the latter part of Qctober we accompanied a friend on a shooting expedition to White ltock, on the Fargo & Southern, 28 or 30 miles south of Wahpeton, in Roberts county. It is a fact that this popu lar road opens up jne of the finest sections of country in the north west. At White llock at the time we were there there was nothing more to indicate a station than a section house and water tank, the latter operated by a windmill. Here are two brandies of the Bois de Sioux, the west and east forks, their source being Lake Traverse, and numerous little lakes, making quite a headquarters for game. At that time section foreman Michael Schea, had a large #t'orce of men at work ballasting up the track and covering witii gravel the pipe leading from the river to the tank, proper, protecting it from the com ing frost of winter. In our travel over and general knowledge of this road, we know there is not a moie substantial and better equipped line than this same Fargo & Southern. The rails are of the finest steel, the road bed is graded up in good shape, and ail the fall gravel trains have been kept busy scattering gravel from one end to the other. Fore man, Schea, with headquarters at White Bock, is an experienced rail road man, and we should say, with al, the right man in the right place. He is faithful to the interests of the company and is esteemed by the men under him, as well as all set tlers knowing him in that section of country. At that time there was talk of a general store going in there, and other institutions to make the commencement of a town. There are numerous settlements, in fact settlers all along the 100 miles of this road between Fargo and Or tonville, who, with the efforts of the road are fast establishing town sites and building up trading posts for the accommodation of aU concerned, and th& best interests of the coun try. The passenger coaches on this line are positively the finest that come into the northwest, and the [road is doing a good passenger and [freight business. It is generally hderstood that the Milwaukee & St. Paul management is backing the enterprise, and we would be pleased to see—for it would be no more than risht—such a powerful, well known anu popular management receive all the patronage that a wide awake jftnd progressive people could be stow upon it.' It is "the peoples line," and they should stand by it. Vol. 6. WAHPETON^ RICHLAND Co., DAKOTA, THURSDAY, DEC. II, 1884. No. 36.
