Let the journalist defend the doctrine of the party which he approves, let him criticise and condem the party which he does not approve, re serving always his right to applaud his op ponents or censure his friends, as the truth may require, and he will be independent enough for free country ^ftiftrileld. THURSDAY, JUNE 13,1889. Minneapolis got 810,000j together in good time in aid of the Pennsyl vania flood sufferers,—and has gone to work in the interest of Seattle. The Johnstown disaster is bad enough, but instead of there having been 15,000 lives lost as the indus trious reporter would have had us believe a few days ago, the loss is only about 4,000, it is said. The publishers of North Dakota are called to^meet at Fargo, June 15th, looking to the organization of a press association, and the Bis marck Tribune suggests that the publishers meet at Bismarck July 5th and complete the organization. Gobd ideas. Let the publishers attend and organize. It is said that an American fur company has discovered mammoths at the head of Snake river in Alaska, natives having killed two of the monster beasts, being 20 feet high and 30 feet in length, possessing tusks, two pair on each animal four feet long, and a pair 15 feet long, each of latter weighing 250 pounds. Can this be confirmed The Milbank Review says that city is soon to have a road connect ing with Fargo and Winnipeg and Jamestown and Minot, all connect ing with Sioux City, Omaha and Kansas City. It seems that Mil bank men arc pushing the project and that a great deal of grading will be done this year. This im portant system should not overlook Wahpeton, one of the most finely located little cities in the west. A Bismarck special says that Thomas Lowry, the man of Minne apolis street car fame, has given up the idea of building a road into Bis marck this year. It is presumed that Lowry, Washburn & Co. have not yet sufficiently squeezed their employees to warrant the undertak ing. They claim, however, that it is owing to the stringency in the money market of the country. These same protectionists howled about how the Republican party would save the country if only given an opportunity. Carpet-bagger Ordway has in duced^Judge.Carland and Attorney Hollemback to formulate opinions on the question of his Dakota resi dence, and it is said these gentle men go to some pains to prove that the ex-governor is a resident, and the Ordway organs are now claim ing that the Fargo Republican has accepted the situation and will sup port the party nominations. We don't know but the Republican is wise in thus "lying down." but the great party which is committed to the policy of serving personal ends all over the land and which is shap ing itself to serve Carpet-baggers Pierce, Ordway & Co. in North Dakota, should be sat upon. These politicians take great pride in claim ing the honor of having helped to divide Dakota, and now come on to claim their half of it. Will the tax-payers sit upon them The twin city papers have been sensational in their announcement of the fact tliat ex-Senator Sabin some time since was granted a divorce from his wife, on the ground of habitual drunkenness through the use of opium. It seems that Mr. and Mrs. Sabin were married 20 years ago when the lady was 20 years of age, then even, a user of opium. When the Senator's term expired at .Washington a few months since, it is said that Mrs. Sabin went to an inebriate asylum at Flushing, Long Island, and that she is there yet, where the papers for divorce were served on her, when she made no defense but allowed Sabin to proceed in ridding himself of her. We noticed one re port saying that Sabin and his inti mate fridhds claimed that Mrs. Sabin had committed offenses greater than the alleged use of opium. Another report says that Sabin is getting ready to marry a Washington woman. Mr. and Mrs. '-.i Sabin having no children, had adopted a little child of Mr. Sabin's sister and two small children of the late lion. John B. Raymond. These children are now in a convent at Georgetown, D. C. Report has it that Mrs. Sabin will be cared for during her life by the senator. COUNTY DADS.
