The play of course deals with sacred sub jects, the author having taken for his theme the thrilling story of John the Baptist, and the in cidents of the Bible story just previously to and following the crucifixion. The tragedy of Calvary is shown by tableaux after the famous painting of Michael Augelo and is said to be one of the most magnificent the stage has ever Known. Of course the character of our Sav iour is not sliowu, but many of those immediately associated with Christ while on earth are presented with a fidelity to the best conceptions of their char acter and appearance, and the result is a play that is at all times absorbing with interest and elevating in its teaching.
