CLASSIFIED WANTS. Persuasive Pikers "They are prettv mnch excited over at Phoenix." said a well known travel ing man last night, whs bad just ar rived from tbe west, 'about the al leged attempts of the business men in the southern California resorts to draw business, in other words tourists, away from the Arizona city. The Impres sion prevails around the city that the business men of the southern Califor nia towns have organized a sort of a league, tbe purpose of which is to per suadn people bound for Phoenix to con tinue on to tbe coast winter resorts, and It Is the means said to be employed that makes the Phoenix people sore. If the reports are true they have a right to be sore. Tney claim that the California people keep a lot ot pikers and cappers at work on all trains run ning between Albuquerque and the coast, whose buslness'it is to hunt out all tourists end pour Into their ears a sad story about the fatal rssults likely to occur from going to Phoealx. Sto ries about the unhealthy climate of the Salt River valley." This knight ot the grip suites, more over, that tbe people of Pboenlx know of several cases where pikers have got in their work with telling effect. The matter has been brought to the atten tion of the Phoenix board of trade, who Intend to make it a weary life for the southern California businessmen who are inji'rlng the tourist business of the Arizona capital. The people of Phoenix are proud of the climate of tbe Salt River valley, and they mean to take vigorous action against the per.uaslve pikers whom they believe are drawing away from them tbe lucra tive tourist and health seeker.
