PAGE SIX. THE BISBEE D"ATLY REVIEW, BISBEE, ARIZONA, TUESDAY MORNING, DECEMBER 22, 1903. 'H Unique Field, Alining in Mexico (Continued From Page Two.) ins as depth Increased, the exhaust sn of the mere valuable high grade sres, the death of owners, the disrup 'Hon of estates a score of causes eryod to paralyze work In the mines rrying oie which Is now ot pay able trade. It should be remem Ucrcd that In many of the oldtime mines everything ore, rock and to jr had to be carried out on men's Sacks, on ladders that were merely notched sticks "chicken ladders' and "money poles" they were aptly "SetnitrJ. Wo hale mentioned t,he nhangca in economical conditions jsat are making these mines valuable again. A number of what are today the most productive and profitable listricts of Mexico all belonged to Mils class. The mines in the dis tricts of Santa Eulalia, Parral, San jta. Ilarbara. Manimi. Velardena and Tflombrerete are examples. The ad vent of railroads, and the application f adequate mining methods and pro- messes of ore treatment, have raised ihem from stacnatlon and idleness fnto the front .rank of paying mines. These old mines arc in one way like prospects. The work that has "Seen done on them is so much, explo ration, which has opened up and ex posed the veins, leaving them acces sible for comparatively easy examl -nation and a prompt determination jf their possibilities. Numbers of them arc idle in the hands of their wncrs. or in the possession of heirs, trustees or estates; and numbers more are perfectly free and open to acnoun-ement. Under the new con ditions, there are many o them that can be made to pay well. But to put an old mine on its feet requires ex penditure for equipment, cleaning and making safe, as well as active attention and management, and these iirc things the owners are often un able to bestow. This class of under tStfiings involves a minimum of spec ulation, as the ore bodies are in plain sight, largely developed, and the pos abilities that they are present are easily ascertained. These special iYpportunles are- the result of the pe-l trnliar conditions .that have hereto-j Core prevailed in Mexico, followed by ae creation of entirely new 'condi slans during the last dozen years, and 3&cy probably have no counterpart in wj other country on the globe. they hardly realize the situation un til it is over. ' Miss Williams robbed 'the bees of their honey in July and took in the neighborhood of 2,500 pounds ot the valuable production from them. I For Warren District Mining Stocks BUYING OR SELLING A dozen prisoners confined within the city jail at Tucson on Friday morning attemped to emulate Stile?, Alvord and the other Tombstone t'cs peradoes, by making a break for free dom. Frank Baker, a confederate from the outsice, who had thrown a rope over the wall and was leading the prisoners in their break for lib erty, fell from the top of the high wall to the stone pavement beneath and will probably die as a result of his injuries, as he Is terribly hurt about the head. Baker had three friends confined in the jail, which Is made up of rows of cells on two sides and high walls on the remaining twi Baker had secured a long rope which by means of a hook he fastened to the top of the wall and succeeded in ecal ing it from the outside. He then let the rope down on the Inside and the twelve prisoners not locked in "ieir cells climbed to the top of the wait where Baker was waiting for them.1 When the latter then let the i.pej down on the outside and star p I to lead the descent, he In some way lost hold and fell to the pavement be neath. The noise of the fall attract-' ed the attention of the night jailer who was in his office about a hundred feet away and he came out to see what had happened, while the prison ers on the wall slid back down the rope to the inside, fearing that the see B. J. O'REILLY BANK OF BISBEE BUILDING, jailer -would commence shooting when he saw that an escape was being at tempted. The lifeless form of Ba ker was picked up and he was sent to the hospital while a charge -was preferred against him.
