Dugan sold one of the finest residences in town yesterday to Daa Reedy of the Copper Queen smelter. It is ru mored that Mr. Reedy Intends to take unto himself a bride shortly, and sur prise his frends. o Mann's Horse Runs Away. This a-fternoon Mann, the market man's horse ran away near Sixteenth and F, and scattered vegetables, chickens, etc., along the street for several Mocks. Finally the front wheels and shafts came off awl left the wagon be hind, and the horse kept on going. o Returns Home. Assistant General S. W. French and Mrs. French re turned home this morning from Los Angeles. Mr. and Mrs. French left Douglas a month ago for a vacation, At Portland Mrs. French was first taken sick, and afterward Mr French became ill. Mrs. French has fully re covered, but Mr. French, while able to walk from his car this morning, will not be able to assume his duties for some time at the Copper Queen gen eral offices. o Alleged Thief Caught. Norberto Romero, a Mexican employed at the Copper Queen smelter, is in jail on a charge of stealing a watch from It. E. Donovan, a mechanic at the smelter. He was arrested by Officer Splawn in Erickson & Howe's jewelry store last evening when he presented the watch to be repaired. The watch has been identified. Big Copper Shipment. The customs office at this point is in possession of of a manifest declaring the entry of 600,000 pounds of copper cencentrates shipped by the Moctezuma Copper Company to the Old Dominion smelter at Globe. The value of the copper Is placed at $13,260 and was brought up from Nacozari last night in eleven cars. The Copper Queen smelter here Is overworked, thus necessitating the forwarding of the concentrates to Globe. Were Not Married. Now Ernest Hughes, the efficient pitcher of the Douglas ball team, is looking for the man who did it. On Tuesday last a story to the effect that he and Miss Etta May Magarell were married three weeks before In Los Angeles was cir culated and published. Both parties deny the story and are tired of receiv ing congratulations under such false jretenses. o More Ore for Douglas. Dick Lake can of Morencl was in Douglas this week for the purpose of arranging with the Copper Queen smelter for the shipment of ore from his mine in ike Morenci district. He returned yesterday and will at once forward a sample shipment, after which it is ex pected the shipments will arrive res Tilarly. o Horses Not Stolen. The horses which were reported stolen from a man named McKinney, living at Pir tfeville, have been found on a near by xznch, where they had strayed, o Digging Well. The new well at the Copper Queen smelter, which was jtarted last Monday, is iYow 118 feet icep, and work will be pushed at the yast rapid rate until water in suffi cient quantities is obtained. a Wild Geese. Yesterday morning a Jock of wild geese passed over the city, flying so close to the ground that two were killed by an enterprising' citizen who was up early. The flight vi geese may be considered a guar anty that summer is at an end. o Good Report. I. J. Johnson, state manager for the New York Life Insur ance Company, with headquarters in Phoenix, is in Douglas today, and stated that he has recently been over the Territory and has never seen all conditions so prosperous, o Celebrate Wedding Anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Lamereaux celebrated their first wedding anniversary last evening at their home on Eleventh street. The evening was spent very pleasantly In various games. In the Tord game Mrs. Flicklnger won the 4ret prize and Mr. Pearsoll won the Dooby prize. Refreshments were served. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Hammill, Mr. and Mrs. George Logie, Mrs. Edith Flickinger, Mrs. Nichols, Mr. Pearsoll. Mr. Claus acn and Master Ogden Hammill. J. S. City Clerk Albert Sarae3 left this morning for a short business trip to Tombstone. He was accorapau'ed as far as BIsbee by his mother, where she will spend the day. BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Bisbee, as follows. Section 1. That there shall be lev led for the year 1905 upon the assess ed valuation of the real and personal property within the City of BIsbee as shown by the Equalization roll of said year (except upon such property as is or may be exempt from taxation un der the laws cf the Territory), the fol lowing taxes: FirstFour mills on the dollar of such assessed valuation to defray the salaries of officers and the ordinary contingent expenses of the city not otherwise provided for. Second Two mills on the dollar of such assessed valuation for the pur pose of constructing and repairing streets, sewers, sidewalks and cross streets, bridges and culverts. Third Four mills on the doilar of such assessed valuation to defray the interest on the public debt of the city. Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect and be In force from and after the date of its passage by the Common Council and approved by the Mayor. Passed and adopted this fourth da7 of September, 1905.
