Mex., Oct lt A rll ore discovery has "been maae at the Democrata mine recently. The fird was made on the 600 foot let el, and the extent has not yet been ascer tained, except lhat it will prove to he the largest ore body on the pr -erty. It aerages S per cent in c per. The smelter of the company is op eratlng steadily, and within the next month or to the new portion of the reduction department vlll be in op eration. Considerable new machinery has been ordered, which Is now begin ning to arrhe in the city When all has been recehed the new smelter will be lilown In. The Superior-Honanza property, lo cated about six miles west of Imurls, In the Magdalena district, and op erated by the Cananea company, is looking exceptionally good at present. Considerable work is now being done. Including the running of a tunnel 1. 00 feet, a new working shaft bclns Bunk, and exploration work under way The tunnnel has been cut already fo' a. distance of 700 feet. The new work ing shaft will be sunk in the foot wall, and will go dow n to the 500 foot level at a point 20 Teet aboie the 100 foot level The new shaft Is beln.j sunk to get away from the water. The tunnel will connect with the new shaft as well as the other two shafts, which hate been sunk to a depth of about 450 feet each. The tunnel is to be used for. the transferring of the ores from the mine to the railroad, which is to be constructed as soon as conditions become quieter. It will al so serve as a drain for the water atote the let el, and the water belou will be pumped to the tunnel level. The property Js unaer the manage ment of Henry Bollweg. Disturbances Cause Decrease Revolutionary activities in northern Sonora, which Interrupted train -service on all the railroads In the state during the month of September, also causing many small properties to discontinue work and the larger raes to curtail output, are reflected in he exportations for the month, esuc' 'If through the port of Agua Pr l, through which all the ores from i c northeastern portion of the state, art shipped. In bulk, the August exporta tions amounted to 14 40C tons, while September only totaled G.487 tons. The output of the Cananea Consoli dated Copper company's smelter for the month of September was 7,250.000 pounds of blister copper, while Au gust surpassed 7,350,000 pounds The loss is accounted for In the interrupt ed train service and Inability to se cure as much supplies as desired, al though this did not interfere greatly with the operations of the company as a whole. Capote Ore Body Rich The new shaft being sunk at the Capote mine of the Cananea company is rapidly being completed and much - headway is being made In the future main shaft of this property. The new ore bins have been commenced and the grading done for the spu of the company railroad and moto' line has been about completed Tha ore body at Capote has been showing up greater than eer, and on the 001 foot level the ore is found to continue as rich as as on the other let els above, up to the SOO foot let el. To Work Over Tailings The Calumet and Sonora company has decided to work over the tailings, . which have been accumulating for the past three or four years, as it nas been found that they will average J2.S0 a ton. This decision was ar rived at recently by Dr Walter Har vey Weed, of New York city, who Is .the consulting engineer and manager of the property, and who Is at pres ent at the property. The ralls for the incline shaft hsfte been continued down to the 52-foot level, and the skips can now be op erated to that depth. Strike $16 Ore A find of $16 ore was made In the drift on the 300 foot level recentlj This drift was started about two months ago, and Is being driven in & southerly direction to catch the ore fcody. The stringer was encountered at a distance of 125 feet from the 'shaft, where it was about five inches In width. The extent of the And has not yet been ascertained A new air compressor has been or dered and will be installed upon Us arrival.
