There was more liquidation in the local coppers than we have seen for a long time. T . buying w-as very small. Stop ordeis were freely caught on the way down and this tended to swell the volume of stock offered. In normal times the liquidation would have been easily taken caro of but with the present ab sence of speculation there wore ory tew orders tinder the market "at loflr ef levels. Prices looked so attracthe that buying orders commenced to come in and the close showed a gootf rally. ArtzOct. 23: A ver rich striKe or copperana smir ore has beenmade on the MacDon ald property on the east side of the Patagonia district. The strike was made in the lower tunnel and has widened out to more than 12 inchea ol rich sulphide running 28 per cent copper and 121 ounces In silver. Pre parations are telng made to break out the ore and begin shipments to the Copper Queen smelter at Douglas. Hosan and MeCutc.vn. ae uis- bee miners, ho have under bond one of the Richardson groups are stlil getting into tetter ore and they nor bae blocked out about three car loads of ore that will average better than $100 to the ton. They expect to soon make a Rood size shipment and have already made 'arrangements to ship thefr ore to the Copper Queen smelter. Reports from the World's Fair are to the effect that the Phelps Dodga men at work in sampling and mappins the mine are making rapid progress in their work and expect to complete their examination in about fiie weeks. During the examination of one of the upper tunnels, it is said that a very rich streak of high grade was found that must have been overlooked In years past by the owners The ex tent of the rich ore chute was not Kiven but it is belieed to be one of considerable sue and the assay- run ery high In silver. It. O. Fife, a mining man of Douglas who has been unable to work a pro- uertj he owns in Sonora. was a visi tor to Patagonli during tie past week and after looking oer the dis trict has taken an option and bond on two properties, tut would not give 'out names or prices as tie nas not completed all details in the transac tion. He expects to return here short ly and close up the deal The Three R mine continues to send out a large tonnage of high grade copper every day and the man ngement is still looking for more ore teams to haul the ore to the railroaJ. A number of Bisbeeitcs got in dur ing the week and all seem busy ulther taking bonds or making locations in the new copper country. Among those H-en are Chas Jones W. F. Clark, Ed Tovrea, George Spindle and Tho. Fitzslmmons Mike Cunningham of the Bank of BIsbee and C. O Ellis or he Bank of Douglas, came through Thursday with the El Paso excursion and pick ed up some promising properties which they expect to place with east-' ern copper people , Jas. II Baker, of the Douglas Lumb er company and Mayor of Douglas Is expected in Patagonia within the next few days with associates from Texas who contemplate establishing a lumb er yard here. A lumber yard Is bad ly needed and will pay well In Pata gonia. There is an excellent chance for a livery stable, two or throe teams, and about six good saddTe horses and an automobile would mike money for the parties starting a stable. Min ing men arriving every day find it al most impossible to secure horses tnd 'means of getting out to the surround ing districts and when called away en short notice would pay fancy prices for an auto ride to Nogales, Tucson, Benson or BIsbee. There is plenty of work here for a first class carpenter, painter, plumber and blockamith. A man for each of theae trades could make a good deal of money. Ordeal for Brides. A peculiar and barbaric marriage eustom of the Kabyle women of Africa consists In the martyrdom of the bride, who, clad In her wedding finery, stands through an entire mqrnlng against a pillar in the village square. Her eyes are closed, her arms pressed to her sides and she has only the narrow base of the column for a foothold. Meanwhile a ring of villagers criticise and commend on her appearance. Clothes. Now, when I am in my riding togs, I'm all horse: when I have on my business suit, my mind's full of business; when I get Into my evening dress my mind takes a purely social turn." CH RICH III M METAL New Records for Southern Town Made in Output for October in Cop per Production CAMP IS BONANZA New records in output of the red metal are being made by the Canan ea company this month. Record tig ' ures for a run were made on Tuesday and .It was expected that those fig ures would be equalled yesterdhy ana continued for the balance of tho tnonth. If such Is the case a record for tho month will be established. Arthur Cole, superintendent of the smelter at Cananea was in BIsbee yesterday having motored up from Cananea with L. A. Hagy of th sarao company. When asked about produc tion at the big Mexican copper camp he gave some interesting figures. Mr. Cole stated ihat Tuesday they made a run of 145 tons and that it was ex pected ' to equal that run yesterday and to approach It during the bal?nce of the .month, An ordinarily good run up to this tlnio has tee-i abotl 125 tons so thst the increase shown is about fifteen per cent. Mr Cole stated that he expected tho ontr.ut 0f copi'sr for the month of October would bo approximately seeu and a auarter million pounds. The Import ance of Cananea to the metal market is therefore more than eer clearly thown. v Prepares for Better Days When times were dull and copper was down Cananea prepared for bet ter days. Then it was that the plans of Dr. RIcketts for lowering cost and Increasing output were made and car ried out. Now- that the red metal has come back to its own full bene fit of those plans Is being reajied b the Cananea company and It is pre pared to profitably mine, treat and ship this last tjuantlty of copier, an output of close to 90,000,000 pound3 per year. Both arc Optimistic Mr. Hagy and Mr. Colo made a quick run up to BIsbee by automcblle yesterday, their time from Cananea to N'aco being only one hour and for ty minutes. They stated that ton ditlons were once more normal in tha1 city and that the mines and hmelter were busy almost to capacity and then gave the figures on the output The cutting off of communication for a time only .served to aHect the re ceipts of concentrates and the normal mine output, outside of the product of these was in no wi&e affecfd ty the disturbances which interrupted traffic and caused some inconvenien ces to the residents of the city. Now that matters are again normal all is going on as usual except that the days are busier than befote. The party returned to Cananea last evening. ARIZONA INSURANCE AGENCY Insurance & Loans.
