MOHAVE COUNTY MINER, JANUARY 9,1897 Where the Surprise Came In. A certain young man in AtchiBon stood on a corner last night wondering what he would do with himself to kill time, when he saw a crowd of thirty or more people approaching with baskets on their arms. It was a surprise party and when he fell in line and asked a pretty girl if he could carry her basket, she con sented thinking that he was a guest whom she had not yet met. Every one in the crowd seemed to think that some one else had invited him, and some one, finding out his name, introduced hnn to all the otheis. He had the best time in his life. He had a good supper, kissed seventeen girls, escorted the prettiest girl in the crowd home and was invited to two parties to be given next weefe. There is nothing like seizing an oppor tunity to be in the social swim. Atchi son Globe. An Italian gentleman, who neglected to leave his name, kindly ted a new silk hat to the Polar bear in Central Park the other day. Then the unknown wandered sadly away with a handkerchief tied over his bead. When the strange Italian ap proached the rockbound pit the bear was asleep. After trying in several ways to arou e him to a sense of his social duties the man took off his silk tile and poked it between the bars. The exhibit from the Polar regions was not yearning par ticularly for plug hats, but he took the proffered tile and chewed it up like a charlotte russe. Then he looked at the kind Italian and licked his chops as if to ask for more. Instead of submitting other portions of his wardrobe the strang er yelled for help. A policeman sprinted valiantly to the binqiet, but was unable to secure anything but the hatband bear ing the name of the maker. Hurling in a few picturesque oaths by way of desert the Italian departed without waking up any more of the animals New York Journal. A man wagered that tie could lie in bed a week without any material change in his health. Upon arising he found he had not strength sufficient to enable him to stand on his feet. Muscle, bones, tissues, nerves, and even the blood had been vitiated, and were remarkably weaker. He could not understand thy absolute stillness should not rest a man instead of destroying his strength. An other man carried his arm in a sling tor three months to see what would happen to it. The muscles and skin shriveled, and the flesh was flabby and sickly, the bone of the arm became still as though all the vital spring had departed from it. People who do not exercise sufficiently have fl ibby flesh, soft and sickly muscle, and their bones are dry as chalk, and are easily broken in a fall ; on the other hand, if sufficient exercise is taken the bones are full of sap and have a spring or flexibility that will resist a fracture. Such a person is generally safe ag ainst disease. 0 ueopath . From a gentleman who arrived yester day from Globe it is learned that the new tramway for the Buffalo Mining Com pany has been completed and that that property will be opened with a large force of men about the first of the year. This will nake Globe a much livelier camp thin it is at present. Herald. Deafness Cannot be Cured by local applications as they cannot reach the diseased portion of the ear. There is only one way to cure deafness, and that is by constitutional remedies. Deaf ness is caused by an inflamed condition of the mucous lining of the Eustachian Tube. When this tube is inflimed you have a rumbling sound or imperfect hearing, and when it is entirely closed, deafness is the result, and unless the in flammation can be taken out and this tube restored to its normal condition, hearing will be destroyed forever ; nine eases out of ten are caused by catarrh, which is nothing but an inflamed con dition of the mucous surfaces. We will give 0 ae Hundred Dollars for any case of deafness (caused by catarrh) that cannot be cured by Hall's Catarrh Cure. Send for circulars ; free. F. J. Cheney & Co , Toledo, O. .
