KING-MAN, ARIZONA, MARCH 13, 1897.
There is some wholesome food for re flection for some of our Eastern subscrib ers in the following extract from a letter recently written by one of the officers of a silver mining company, which a few years ago was engaged in developing some very promising silver properties This particular officer has been receiving Rome nomnlainiutr letters from Eastern stockholders, occasionally accompanied by a demand that the company refund the money unless they put the property on a paying basis. Having put up wi h these demands until patience ceased to be a virtue, he concluded to answer some oi them from this standpoint, and we must confess with some degree of justi fication, as the following extract from the letter will show, says the Mining Kecord : "Suppose a number of our citizens had invested a few hundred dollars in the Illinois Steel Works, and then had come to the conclusion that they could make more money by destroying those works and utilizing some others in which they owned larger interests, and had then hired men to destroy the Illinois works, would it not be ridiculous for them to raise a howl afterwards and clamor tor the men whose property they had de stroyed by the millions to refund them the few hundred they had inyested, and vet that is lust what Eastern men are doing; they invested a few hundred dol lars where our Western men invested thousands in prospective silver proper ties, then they sent their representatives to Washington with instructions to de stroy the silver mining industry, and ruin people in the silver stales by the thousand ; they subsidized their papers to warn people against investing in silver properties, and after entailing millions upon millions of loss upon us and mak ing it eutirely impossible for us to open up our mines, and adding insult to in jury by laughing and jeering at us be cause they had ruined us, then they de mand with righteous indignation thacout of the wreck they have left us we must, reimburse them. "The Eistern people ruined an indus try in which our people had many mil lions invested as agaimt a few thousand of Eastern money. It was your neigh bors and friends who did this, and not the officers of this company or our friends We did our utmost to avert it, and still, alter bringing ruin and desolation to us and completely barring the way for u- to recoyer, you then turn around and condemn us for not making a success of an enttrprise destroyed by you " NOTICE TO CREDITORS.
