OLD PILES WERE ROTTEN
Underpinning of West end of Dock
Ruined by Teredos
That the pi s tin nr wharf No. 1
are •* badly'eaten by. teredos as to be
unsafe was demonstrated today when
ja -ks were put under tho warehouse
to raise it f*>r moving to the east end
! of tho wharf, under which new piles
have b cn driven. When the jacks
i got to work the piles sank instead of
the building coming up, and work had
to stop until the whole structure could
be raised.
The warehouse and office were mov
ed safely however, and the old piles
will lie replaced at once. The west
end of the warehouse, which was add
ed last spring, was left as the piles
under it are new.

Graders Strike Quart/ Seam
Three graders working on a station
of the Alaska Central on mile 41 a few
days ago struck a quartz seam which
showed numerous specks of gold.
Such seams are frequently encountered
in that region hut this was so much
larger titan the ordinary and the colors
so much better that the men made a
quartz location, which they have filed
with Commissioner Hildreth. The lo
cators arc Joe McGuigan, Robert Ed
gar and Pat McConnell.
