The West Philadelphia Saturday School established in August by twelve ladies, four from each West Philadelphia Fountain, Mrs. C. A. Atwell, principal was visited by the Chief of the Philadelphia Division. There are 37 boys and girls enroll ed, aged from seven to thirteen. When the Chief came in they were engaged in learning the proper way of setting table and the exact system of washing dishes. The Chief and a lady visitor made in structive addresses commending the children for the unison and precision with which each duty was per formed and the delightful songs ‘which they sang at intervals, illus trating their work. Twelve of the smaller girls sang a ‘‘food manners song,”’ which taught them how to sit properly and how to receive a guest and to open and close a door. Every instruction was coupled with a suitable moticn, which was exe cuted with vigor. The outfit of the school was in spected. Every child has a beauti ful set of dishes, knives and forks, dish pans and brooms, a real house keeping outfit. Chief Irwin explained to the school the advantages of the Rose bud Fountain and we hope many of them will join and learn business methods as well as sewing and housekeeping. C. W. MiTcHELL. Winston-Salem Notes. Jan. 25, 1900. My. Editor.—Please allow space in your excellent paper for me to say a few words about the twin city. Qur division was never ina bet ter condition, Even siace the New Year; many have joined the foun tains, classes and Rosebuds. Sev eral persons have in the past week ¢r so, made their ‘membership self support‘ng. ~ The_interest that is heiug mani. fested in the Rosebud Department is very gratifying. Little Otha Owens, age 13, a mem ber of Rocebud 273, bids fair to ri val the invincible Kyles in useful ness. Her missionary spirit has al ready attracted much attention; and her efforts to carry other little girls into her church, Sunday School and society, have endeared her to the hearts of all who know her, Below is a paper read by her be fore Mt. Zion Bapt Sabbath School, of which she is a member; she is also an active member of the same church. Cheerfulness. The way to be cheerful is to make others happy. If you meet some little girls and boys that are not dressed as you, you should not make fun of them or speak some thing to make them feel bad, but you should speak some little word of kindness. Every little word of kindness spoken will sink deep into some heart. Often you think they are lost but they will return. Al ways speak kindly to old folks and you will always be cheerful. Speak kindly to those that speak evil of you. Often it will cause them to speak kindly to you and thus make you cheerful. There are many things that we little girls and boys can do to make home, our Sunday school and other places eheerful. You can make others cheerful by speaking kindly to them and treat ing them with politeness. To at tract old people, you must treat them with politeness and they will always speak a cheerful word to you. You can make your school cheerful by bringing otbers into it, by coming on time yourself and by treating visitors with kindness. If our teachers do not come on time, let us lead them by coming on time ourselves. And then let us help to support the Sabbath school by giving our pennies, for ‘“God loveth a cheerful giver.”” Do these things and you will always be cheerful. The outlook for the order is very encouraging. We can truthfully say that we are on the high road to success. I remain yours for the race, A. J. Brown, Chief. Deputy General J. T. Whilst here in Lewes Rev. J. T. Carpenter was the guest of honor at a dinner given by Mrs. Adaline Sommers of No. 6 Nassau street, the other guests present were Chief A. P. Editor.—For some time past nothing has been said of Simmons Fountain No. 642, through your valuable paper, however we are yet alive and steadily going on to pros perity. Atour last regular meeting our installation services were conducted by our Deputy at Large T. J. Ham ilton, of Boston. We were highly pleased to have him with us and hope to have him with us again SOOm. We have taken in some new members and more applications are being filled out. All the members take great interest in the Fountain and we hope this New Year may be the most prosperous one we have ever known. : o "1;0:1;5- for Christ and the Foun tain. . Mary E. WEBSTER, W. Secretary Division News. !WARRJINTON, VA., Jan. 13, 1900. The first meeting of the Warren ton Divisira was held on Jan. 4th, when the hour arrived, the hall was well filled. All of the messenggrs. and a number of the “circles were present and paid in their dues, etc. The reports of the messengers shows all of the Fountains are in a very prosperous condition. Fach Fountain is receiving new members every month, and a large club of the chief, is coming on nice ly. | The reports show that the sick of the Fountains have all been paid up for the year. After regular business, many loving and glorious speeches were made. After the chief spoke, Prof. J. S. 'Jones, Corresponding Secre tary for the Reformer, addressed the division. The next speaker was W. G. Jackson, and many others. The division closed with an old time covenant meeting and shaking of hands. Yoursin U. T.and C., Jjas. S. JoNEs, Cor. Sec. for Reformer AT LAST.
