Lord liow the hot sun went for us, And biled and blistered and burned, How the rebel balls whizzed 'round us And a cuss in his death grip turned. Till along towards dusk I seed a thing I could not believe for a spell; That nigger, that Tim was a crawl ing to me Through that fire proof gilt edged hell. The rebels seed him as quick as me And the bullets buzzed like bees; But he jumped for me and shoul dered me Though a shot fetched him once to his knees; But he staggered up and bore me W M dozen stumbles and falls, Till safe in oui- lines he drapped us both His black hide riddled with balls, So iny gentle gazelles, thar's my answer, And here stays Banty Tim: He trumped death's ace that day for me And I aint agoing back on him!
