LOANS OnPtfnrHure, Hanoi, etc., with out removal, at lowest possible rates Tbo Journal of Education gives In formation as to tbo plan In voguo In Iowa for the transportation of rural children to school. The law permits tho authorities of ono township to con tract with those of another for the In structlon of children who llvo at an unreasonable distance from their schools. Where tho saving of expense or Increased advantago to the pupils may warrant It, arrangements may bo mado for tho transportation of any children to and from the school. The plan Is In .operation on tbo largest scale In Winnebago county. There forty nine children nro conveyed from two and one-half to live and one-half miles, using four teams, at a cost of S25 a month. Since tho plan was put In op eration tho county authorities have been ablo to dispense with four scboods saving 1480 a year. Tho plan should be taken advantago of In mora Iowa districts. There are uow 233 school districts or sub-districts In Iowa, where schools nro maintained for an average attenduueo of less than six pupils, whllo In 2,500 tho averago attendance is less than' eleven. 'Such' methods of Instruction are wasteful when time and money could bo saved by tho transpor tation of pupils, and tho larger classes, graded schools, and better class of teachers that could bo secured would bo of benctlt to the pupils.
