How It Grows
WHEN, on a treet on which
there are 100 telephone uicrs,
fifteen telephones are added, it
means that we may luve to provide an
additional distribution cablrto serve
that street.
When the same thing happens on
six or eight nearby streets, served from
the same cable terminal, it requires
new main cables from terminal boxes
to the exchange.
Such increases from several locali
ties soon call for additions to switch
board and terminal room facilities.
Finally a new exchange, with its
costly equipment, must be built, and '
extensive redistribution made of the
outside plant. ,
These are some of the elements
which enter Into the cost of supplying
telephone service to growing com
munities and which make adequate
rates imperative.
