The weather is all that could be ex
pected, and those who visit the beach
now enjoy the pleasures of life itself.
Thermometer at noon today was 72
degrees.

son.
North beach presents at present the
appearance of a little village by the sea,
with its many tents and cottages, and

Among them are Mr. and Mrs. L. Levy.

subject. Several simple illustrations
were given. Mrs. Rice spoke of modu

Redondo Beach.
Correspondence of the Hbbald.]
Many are the improvements being
made here tor tlie advancement and
general good of Redondo Beach. Great
preparations have been already made
for the reception of the many racing,
walking, jumping, bicycling, club
swinging, [fence-vaulting and hurdle
race participants, which are to arrive
soon, and many are coming from the
surrounding towns and cities. The out
door sports and the inside gymnasium
exhibitions are under the general direc
tion of Mr. Homer J. Young, of Pasadena.
The fina.l championship game of foot
ball will be played on the Redondo
athletic field on the afternoon of August
sth, and that of baseball on the after
noon of August 9th. The new lawn
tennis court, now under construction,
will be, when finished, the finest court
of the kind in California. Surrounding
the court, which is made on an endur
ing and substantial plan, are elevated
seats for spectators. Several matches
by leading players have been arranged
for.
Mr. Goldsmith, editor of the Redondo
Beach Compass, has been confined to his
bed for a few days, but is now conva
lescent, which many are glad to know.
The pet seal "Ned" is attracting more
attention daily. "Ned" is very intel
lectual, and will hold his head up for
some one fishing from the wharf to
throw him a fish.
The minimum temperature in the
shade at Hotel Redondo today was 67.
Johnnie Bassett and Charlie Kimball,
with four others from Santa Monica, are
expected in a few days to enjoy Re
dondo Beach pleasures.
Several have located upon the grounds
owned by Fred Millis and Mr. Ledyard.
Willie Andrews, who has been given
up several times, is still in a hopeful
condition.
The flocks of people coming down daily
are rapidly increasing. Tlie Redondo
Beach line brought many down upon its
noon train for a dip in the water. Many
children are seen in the surf, because, as
the Hebald stated, there is no danger
ior a child going out knee deep. One
does not have to be an expert swimmer,
or a swimmer at all. The breakers are
never so high but that a child can bathe
with perfect safety.
Among the many new campers today
were the following: Mr. Logan and
family, Mr. Perry and George Tompkins,
John Hartnolt and family, Ernest Cole.
J. W. Fuller, Mrs. Lizzie Hawkins and
family, Miss Beth White and family,
Dr. A. M. Anerty and family, Frank
Garbutt and family, A. Hogue, Mrs. W.
T. Rogg, Mrs. H. L. Owens, V. Mc-
Achalins, G. H. Peters and family, W.
J. Keller and family, W. G. Donaldson
son and family, Pomona; Mr. Harring
ton and family, G. Norcross, Henry
Crowan, Mrs. Mary Crowan, San Ber
nardino ; Frank Napper and family, Mr.
Dutton and family, R. Beaden and
family, Mrs. Tobbs and family, Mrs. F.
S. McGreal and family, W. F." McDonald
and family, J. W. Mann and family, J.
W. Price, Mr. White, Mrs. Appell, Mrs.
J. Watson, Mr. N. Grier and family, J.

les ; Herman Walker and family, W. T.

family. H.
Redondo, July 17th.
New Cases.
Among the documents filed with the
county clerk yesterday were the follow
ing new complaints :
Thomas Flint et al. vs. the Los Ange
les Driving Park Association; suit to
foreclose a mortgage on 71.40 acres of
land on tlie Washington and Long
Beach road, given to secure payment of
a promissory note for $7,000, dated July
15, 1889, and bearing interest at 10 per
cent, per annum.
Celia Giegerich vs. Jas. P. McCarty
et al.; suit to foreclose a mortgage on
lot 42 and N % of lot 43, Rosas tract,

Re-Opening a Thoroughfare.
I In order to guard against results utterly sub
j versive of health, it is absolutely essential that
the grand thoroughfare or avenue of the system,
\ the bowels, should be re opened as speedily as
! possible when they become obstructed. If they
are not. the bile is misdirected into the blood';
i the liver becomes torpid; viscid bilious matter
gets into the stomach, and produces indigestion;
i headaches ensue, and other symptoms are pro
; duced, which a prolongation of the exciting
i cause only tends to aggravate. The aperient
i properties of Hosteller's Stomach Bitters consti
-1 tute a most useful agent in overcoming con
striction of the bowels, and promoting a regular
habit of body. It is infinitely superior to the
drastic cathartics frequently used for the pur
pose, since it does not, like them, act violently,
out produces a natural, painless effect, which
does not impair the tone of the evacuatory
organs, which it invigorates instead of weaken
ing. The stomach and liver, also, indeed the
entire system, is strengthened and regulated

WOMEN AND MICE.
The reason why a woman is afraid of a
mouse is a profound mystery—indeed, it has
never been very clearly proven that she is.
But some women are constantly in such a
nervous, irritable condition that the slightest
thing annoys and startles them. The cause of
this unfortunate state of affairs is usually
some functional derangement; some distress
ing or painful irregularity, some derange
ment or peculiar weakness incident to her
sex; or, it may be due to inflammation, ul
ceration or displacement, of some of the
pelvic viscera, or to other organic lesions
peculiar to her sex. From whichever cause
it may arise. Dr. Pierces Favorite Prescrip
tion is a positive remedy, so certain in its
curative results that its manufacturers sell
it, through druggists, under a guarantee of
its giving satisfaction in every case, or
money paid for it will be promptly re
funded. As a soothing and strengthening
nervine, " Favorite Prescription" is une
qualed and is invaluable in allaying and sub
duing nervous excitability, irritaoility, ex
haustion, prostration, hysteria, spasms and
other distressing, nervous symptoms com
monly attendant upon functional and organic
disease of the womb. It induces refreshing
sleep and relieves mental anxiety and de
spondency.
