FINANCE AND TRADE. Financial. IIIHINQI REVIEW. New York, Dec B.—Tbe stock market to day was again very active and irregular, hut on the whole weak, and, while the movement shows no uniformity, the majority of the final changes are losses. The market, however, was decidedly Btrong at both ends of the day, and the temper was such as to show that with any real incitement to buy, coupled with reason able assurance that money to carry them would be forthcoming, that there would be good and extensive demands for all good stocks. The offer of the treasury to take $5,000,000 four per cents was a most influential factor in the situa tion this morning. The hint that $17,000,000 fractional currency might be made available also had a decidedly good effect. The market opened from Ito 3% per cent higher. Money on call then became dear, and the bears began hammering prices all along the line towards delivery hour, when it became known that 11,000,000 gold had been ordered from Ixmdon. Prices moved up rapidly in final dealings, but the improvement was insufficient to wipe out the losses of the day except m a few stocks. Advances of note comprise Union Pacific, 1%; Rock Island and Northern Pacific preferred iy„ each: while losses include sugar and silver certificates 1%. Governments—Steady. MONEY QUOTATIONS.
