Another chapter of the Hunnewill case was written yesterday, when the Hunnewill woman met Officer Wright on the street and demanded to know the whereabouts of her daughter. Under tbe circumstances the officer felt justi- tied in refusing the desired information, when the woman immediately launched a volume of Billingsgate and threats at the officer, ending with the assertion: "We were trying to bring up our little girl decently, and without letting her know 7 of the wickedness in this city; but you, you, have taken her away that you may ruin her. You won't succeed, though, for the law will not let a mother be deprived of her child in that fashion, you.'' With that she hastily departed, saying she was going for a lawyer. A WONDERFUL ESCAPE. An Old Man Dragged Under a Cable Grip Car. A rather elderly man, named J. H. Reis, had a miraculous escape from death at 5:20 yesterday afternoon. Reis attempted to board the grip car of a Downey-avenue train in front of the People's store, but he made a miscalcu lation and fell under the wheels. The gripman. stopped the car qtitckly and Officer Morton, who was on board, pulled Reis from his dangerous position. He was all doubled up and it was gen erally thought that he had been killed, as he had been dragged about fifteen feet under the wheels. His panta and coat were torn in several places, but no injury could be found, outside of a few scars on one wrist. Altogether it was a remarkable escape. The Best Cough Medicine.
