University will produce the champion of tennis players in Southern California in the person of Paul Arnold, professor of mathematics in the university. The champion among the students is Don C. Porter, as demonstrated by the recent tournament. Mr. Porter is a nephew of the United States minister to Italy. Mrs. Barron, mother of the Barron brothers, I. C. and G. D., died last week after a brief illness. Her remains were interred at Rosedale. A family by the name of Hill have moved into the Shrader cottage on Ver mont avenue. The "holiness band" which abides be neath the blue tent on Seventeenth and Main streets have set apart a day of prayer for University church and its pastor. The Alpha Beta Theta Literary soci ety, an adjunct of University public school, held its regular bi-weekly meet ing Friday afternoon last. The program was quite entertaining, with readings by several members and an excellent vocal solo by Miss Mary Hauxhurst. One of the cars belonging to the Main Street Car company got off the track near Sixth street the other day and sus tained damages caused by its collision with a pepper tree. L.
