6 NEWS FROM NEIGHBORING CITIES. Santa Ana Reaching for a Beet Sugar Factory. A Bright Outlook for Orange County for 1893. Lively Local Time* In Pomona During the Holidays-General Rosecrans Arrives at Bedondo Beach. Redlands' Saloon. Santa Ana, Dec. 29.—The euccees of tbe Anaheim people in realizing their expectations as to the establishment of a beet sugar factory seems to have set Santa Ana to thinking again, and it seems more than likely that our people will get to work with renewed energy to secure a beet sugar factory in this city. A fruit cannery is also needed, and that badly. Perhaps in no section of Cali fornia are finer deciduous fruits and ber ries raised than in tbe immediate vicin ity of this city, and yet nearly every pound is either dried or shipped to other markets to be canned. This is decidedly a detriment, and should be remedied at once by establishing a large fruit pack ing house. The outlook for the coming year for Orange county is decidedly promising. With the many substantial improve ments tbat have been made during the paßt year, the establishment cf a $400, --000 beet sugar factory at Anaheim j the completion of a $500,000 irrigating sys tem on the Pan Joaquin ranch; the building of a railroad t oWestminster and other smaller improvements, it is safe to say that 1893 will be the most solidly prosperous year Orange county has yet enjoyed.
