A Western jourdai offers this indu cement: "All subscribers paying in ad vance will be entitled to a fiit. class obituary notice in case of death." A Bhoemaker "out west," of a literary furn; has the following poetical gem on bis fipn : Here lives a man who never refuses, To mend all sorts of boots and shoes When the cold wind blows, take care of your nose, that it don't get froze, and wrap your toes in warm woolen hose. The above v.e suppose, was written in prose, by some one who knows the effect ot cold snows. A "Western bridegroom Bent an account of his -wedding to the vil lage paper, and "was mortified when 'the wedding trousseau" came out in print "the wedding trousers." In Mississippi, when one is in stated, instead of threatening to 'pnt a head" on the offender, it is the stylish thing to say, "I'll put your nose in a pareu thesis." Teacher John, you y mug scape grace, c me here and 1 11 pay you back for your impudence to me yesta'day. Pupil No, thank you. I lure consc entious scruples against tak ing back pay of that sort. A fashionable woman, reading that the Hoos.ic Tunnel cost nine hundred dollars a yard: declared with emphasis, that she'd "have a dress pattern oil' f that piece it the old man didn't lay up a cent for the next two years." Society i i Colauibus, Ohio, is high toned, if tl e following from the Jurs iial is true: "W-h y, y,o u s-a-r d.i. ii-o. is that you?" is the way a young lady salu'ed anotber on the streets the other diy, aud the dimioity and high hede 1 boot thus addressed, meekly and poetically responded, "You bet!" My neighbor's rooster hops over rifo my yard, taking three ft et at a jump, aud scratches up my corn at the rate of three hills a tuinu'e. I discon cert him a little: bow long will it take him to got back ? Solution; I divide the head f om tho body, substruet the it athrrs, reduce the body to fractions, put the compojent parts down in a Kkill-t; add some butter, salt, cte , and niukiplv the fire, which I place un derneath until the example is done. You will find it will take a good deal of figuring to ted when he will arrive at. Lome safe and tc.und, hut figure won't, lie when I havo anything to do ith thuni. The Farmer's Movement. The Farmer's Granges out West have a method of saying what thev mean. At a meeting held at Clifton, 111., the following was adopted : "i: esolved, That we believe a thief' should be called a thief, without re gard to social or political standing, and we charac rize the recent salary grab by our Congress as no better than a steal." At another meeting held at Lan ark, in Carroll county, 111., on some of the banners were, inscribed the following mottoes : "No more Republicans ! No more Democrats! We want and must have honest men to fill public posi tions." ".Salary grabbers, hunt your holes!" '-alary ot our Congressmen, one JdUidred bushels of corn a dav. Poor fellows!" They are a mild aperi ent, and an ex cellent purgative. Being purely veg etable, they con tain no mercury or mineral what ever. Much seri ous sickness and suffering is prevented by their timely use; and very family should have them on hand for their protection and relief, when required. Long ex perience has proved them to be the safest, sur est, and best of all the flilt with which the market abounds. By their occasional use, the blood is purified, the corruptions of the system xpeUed, obstructions removed, and the whole machinery of life restored to its healthy activ ity. Internal organs which become clogged and sluggish are cleansed by Aper't nils, and stimulated into action. Thus incipient dis ease is changed Into health, the value of which change, when reckoned on the vast multitudes who enjoy it, can hardly be computed. Their sugar-coating makes them pleasant to take, and preserves their virtues unimpaired for any length of time, so that they are ever fresh, ana perfectly reliable. Although searching, they are mild, and operate without disturbance to the constitution, or diet, or occupation. Full directions are given on the wrapper to each box, how to use them as a Family Physic, and for the following complaints, which thesa PUU rapidly cure : For Dyspepsia or Indiir ration, 1Af lesiacM, Lancuor and Lom of Appo tit e, they should be taken moderately to stimu late the stomach, and restore its healthy tone and action. For Xivcr Complaint and its various symptoms, .Dillons Headache, Hick Headache, Jaundice or Crreea Mick teas, Bilious Colic and Billons fevers, they should be judiciously taken for each case, to correct the diseased action or remove the Obstructions which cause it. For Dysentery or Diarrhoea, but one mild dose is generally required. For Bheuraatism, Goat, S ravel, Pal Sitatlon of the Heart, Pain In the ide, Back, and .Loins, they should be con tinuously taken, as required, to change the dis eased action of the system. With such change those complaints disappear. For Dropsy and Dropsical Swelllna-s, they should be taken in large and frequent doses to produce the effect of a drastic purge. For Suppression, a large dose should be taken, as it produces the desired effect by sym pathy. As a Dinner Pill, take one or two Pills to promote digestion, and relieve the stomach. An occasional dose stimulates the stomach and bowels, restores the appetite, and invigor ates the system. Hence it is often advanta geous where no serious derangement exists. One who feels tolerably wellt often finds that a dose of these Pills makes him feel decidedly better, from their cleansing and renovating effect on the digestive apparatus. PREPARED BT Br. J. C. A dressing which is at once agreeable, healthy, and effectual for rtrpsprvirxT tlio restores jaaea or gray hair If to its original V- color, with the gloss and freshness of youth. Thin hair is thickened, falling hair checked, and baldness often, though not al ways, cured by its use. Nothing can restore the hair where the follicles are destroyed, or the glands r.trophied and decayed ; but such as remain can be saved by this application, and Btimulated into activity, so that a new growth of hair is produced. In stead of fouling the hair with a pasty sediment, it will keep it clean and vigorous. Its occasional use will pre vent the hair from turning gray or falling off, and consequently prevent baldness. The restoration of vitality it gives to the scalp arrests and prevents the formation of dandruff, which is often so uncleanly and of fensive. Free from those deleterious substances which make some prepa tions dangerous, and injurious to the hair, the Vigor can only benefit but not harm it. If wanted merely for a HAIR DRESSING, nothing else can be found so desirable. Contain ing neither oil nor dye, it does not soil white cambric, and yet lasts long on the hair, giving it a rich, glossy lustre, and a grateful perfume. Prepared by Dr. J. C.
