Seven of the rioters were killed "and 36 wounded, but they continued to parade the streets shouting "Viva Ma dcro!" "Viva Orozco'" and "Viva Go--frnez'" Mingled with these cries were shouts of "Death to Diaz'" The situation is grave in the extreme. No one can foresee the lengths to which the rioting may go. Revolt Prevented, i Alfred Robles Domlnguez. Diaz's rep resentative, at the very outset of the disorders induced the publication of a special extra edition of El Heraldo in 'which he urged the people to resort to -no violence but to wait patiently for the retirement of Diaz, which he said was isure to come. He assured the people "that the resignation of both Diaz and Corral would be submitted to congress today and immediately accepted, and that Senor de la Barra would at once qualify as provisional president. The Maderists insisted today that it was only this personal assuranco of "Senor Domlnguez which prevented a general assault on the palace and other .governmental buildings last night. There 4ae plenty of armed men in the city, 4-lhey say, to undertake a successful re volt, should it become necessary. A The danger of the situation lies in the fact that in Tehuantepec, Guadala jara, Zacatecas, Jalisco, as well as here, where the Diaz forces have been supreme demonstrations are in prog ress. Maderists Satisfied. While it is generally recognized that de la Barra will be as unsatisfactory to the Madero sympathizers as Diaz, because he Is a member of his cabinet, the Madero representatives say they are satisfied. He only Is to serve until elections can he lipid to select a new president. The Madero sympathizers claim 90 per cent of the people are wun tnem. As to the claims of many people that the fires of Insurrection which have been started In so many places cannot be wiped out by the declaration of Ma dero that the war Is at an end, his representatives here say that the people making those claims are not conver sant with the situation. Declaring his Intention of applying to the courts for an injunction, Capt. William M. Potter, representing the East AVashlngton Citlz'ens' Associa tion, today filed with Commissioner Judson a protest against the build ing of a Government stable in square between E and G and Thirteenth and Fourteenth streets, southeast. The Commissioners have obtained an option on the square and are pre paring to erect a stable for tha ac commodation of between 80 and 100 horses!' Residents of the neighbor hood are up in arms against the pro ject, declaring that It will result In the deterioration of the value of the surrounding property and prove a menace to. the health of that section of the city. As an alternate site they suggest the square in East Capi tal street between Seventeenth and Eighteenth streets. The erection of the stable is neces sitated, officials of the District say, in order to provide for horses pur chased by the Street Cleaning De partment, which on July 1, will take over the street and alley cleaning now done under contract. The action of the East Washington Citizens' As sociation, was anticipated, they say, as it was expected that objection would be made to the stable in no matter what section of the city it 18 located. . , , The Commissioners are enlarging also thepresent District stable in the square between N and O and Ninth and Tenth street northwest.
