While Alexandria Is scheduled for a
cafe and sane Fourth of July this year,
the small boy will not b- deprived of
the more Innocent amusement offered
by torpedoes, squibs and oaps. but the
firing of cannons, slant Hi e-crackerr
and revolvers is strictly tabooed. Mayor
F J Pan has given the police very
stringent orders in this respect. Colored
lights and roman candles also will be
permitted in the evening.
It is expected that several thousand
residents will attend the old fashioned

Church, held under the auspices of the
Village Improvement Society. Speak

barbecue, a baseball game, a parade,
games by the Boy Scouts, a uniformed
tournament, and many other amuse
ments will make up the program of the

Corporation Taxes
Are Half Collected
Practically half of the taxes assessed
against the corporations of the coun
try have been received, the report at
the Treasury building this morning
showing that 5.74O,00O of the J28.500.000
assessed was on hand.
AH the taxes are to be paid by the
time of closing the Treasury doors June
30. but the fact that little more than
half Is In at the present time Is not
considered an indication that many cor
porations will lay themselves liable to
heavy penalties. It was explained at
the office of the collector for Internal
revenue this morning that many mil
lions are now on the way to Wash
ington. Collections made along the Pa
