Tribute to George Washington will be paid this afternoon at Old Falls Church in Fairfax county, Va., when a memorial tablet of marble will be placed in the picturesque old structure of whlcji General Washington was once vestry man. The unvettwig ceremonies, under the auspices of the Falls Church Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revo lution illl begin at 3:30 o clock. "To the glory of God in honor of George Washington, who was vestry man of this parish in 176-4. this church being built in 1735. Placed by the Fails Church Chapter. Daughters of the American Revolution, October 6, 1911." Is the inscription on the tablet, places Just outside the front door in the wall of the ancient church. It la three feet square Mrs. W E. Callender, regent of the Falls Church D. A. R., will preside at the ceremonies. A pronounced earthquake) shock be ginning at 5.21 o'clock this morning and lasting forty minutes was recorded by the seismograph at Georgetown Uni versity. So far us can be learned this is an other of the mysterious tremors that rend the eaith's crust in waste places, it Is estimated by Father Tondorf, in charge of the department of seismology, that the shock was somewhere within a radius or 2,500 miles of Washington. Within two weeks the opening of a permanent exhibit by the Board of Education of work and recreation fea tures of Washlngeon school play grounds Is planned. The exhibit la being prepared by J)r. Rebecca Stonehead, director of physi cal training In the schools. The display will be confined entirely to the school playgrounds. These are not connected, except Incidentally, with the public playgrounds of the Washing ton Playground Association, but all work toward the same results. Sixteen of the public schools will be represented in the exhibit Of these, six are colored schools. Samples of industrial work from each school, after competitive tests and selections from pupils of ail grades, will be placed In the exhibit "We wish teachers of other cities to see what wonderful progress is being made by the children In the playground work, and what splendid adjuncts the playgrounds are to the school, the pupils and even to the parents of the children," said Dr. Stoneroad. "We will display samples of woven baskets, mats and embroidery made by the girls, and caned chairs, playground apparatus, carpentry products and other Industrial accomplishments of the boys." Enlarged photographs will be used as decorative features of the exhibit These pictures have been taken at all of the sixteen school playgrounds, and will show the games, drills and physi cal training, as well as Industrial in struction, given the children at the playgrounds. The school playground season is now at its height Dr. Stoneroad has mapped out a course of games and physical exercise adapted to the age and size of the children in the various grades. Each morning before the school bells ring, during- recess, at noon and often after school, the playgrounds are in use.
