Thoro was cnlv ono track, so the Queen know that whatever animal bad mado tho footprints v. us tho one that had stolen the lambs. When she got back to the palace sho called till tho unimnls to her. Then the ninglclan started to find out which of the unlinul.1 made a print like tho ones In tho snow. It wnsr.'t the cle-. pliant, because It was not as' large as Inn It wnsn't tho owl, because ho had claws, and the prints did not bww uuy. Ah each nnlmnl proved that It wnsn't his. ho was free to go. After a whllo thcro was only the Hon, the leopard, and tho wolf left and tho magician could not tell which of tho three It was. Then some one, said to got more snow and mako each put his foot In It, and the ono which matched that near tho lamb's house would he the one they woro looking for. This was sucli a good Idea that tho magician wont himself for the snow. Ho got threo llttlo bowls full, and told each of tho animals left to put ono of their feet In it. Tho lion walk ed up nnd put his in. and then the leopard, but the wolf did not want to. But tho Queen ordered him to, and so ho finally did. And there, as plain as could be, was the exact match of the prints near tho lamb's house. "What have you to say for your self?" asked tho angry Queen. "Only that It was not T," replied the Wilf. still hoping to get out of It by lying. "It Is bad enough to steal, but to lie in addition Is too much," the Queen said. And as she said it she touched each of tho wolf's eyes with her magic wand. As soon as sho did they turned from dark brown to light green, nnd shone as If they were lights. "Now." the Queen told tho wolf, "jour eyes can always be seen. They will shine like two lights, and so be a warning to all the animals. No matter how softly you may tread, your eyes will tell the animals you are near." And so after that the wolves have always had bright green eyes, that can.be seen in the darkness, when the animal' body is Invisible"! Tomorrow's story: "A Piece of the Sun." Thomas James Buried.
