James River Steamer Carries Vashingtonians To Old Point Comfort. RICHMOND. May 19.-The Washing ton Chamber of Commerce left Rich mond this morning at 10 o'clock on a, day steamer,. on the James river for Old Point Comfort, after spending a day and night In this city. The points of historic' interest ulong the river will be pointed out to the members of tho prty by those who have taken tho trip before. Tho Chamber's steamer Is scheduled to arrive at Old Point at 5 this evening. After dinner they will board the Southland for the return to Avashlngton, arriving early Monday morning. Good weather followed the party through their stay in Richmond and the trip has been thoroughly enjoyed by the seventy-llvo members. Thero has been no attempt at formality and members have had free rein to pursue their own pleasure and entertainment as they Individually desired. Tho reception at tho Hotel Jefferson by the Richmond Chamber of Com merce was tho only formal affair of the stay In Richmond. The Washing ton business men learned then that the I Richmond-Washington highway Is to , be built whether Washington takes any share' In the undertaking or not, al though the opinion was expressed here that the completed road would be of more benellt to the people of the Cap ital than to those of Richmond. Henry W. Anderson, president of the highway corporation which was formed to finance the project, told the Wash ington men ht the reception that Rich mond had already raised $60,000 and that th .counties through which the road Is to run would take a largo share of the expense upon their shoulders. The reception at the Jefferson con tested of much cordiality upon the part Of. the officers and directors of the Rich mond Chamber. Considering the fact that the Richmond people had not been informed officially of tho Intended visit of the Washingtonians, the hospitality of the Richmond business men was es pecially appreciated by the Washington tolirlsts. Among those who received were Pres ident Tazewell M. Carrlngton, vice pres ident: E. C. Laird. Coleman Wortham, O. V. Funston, John Stewart Bryan, Henry AV. Anderson and Secretary R. A. Dunlop. The afternoon was spent visiting points of Interest about tho city. The party broke up Into small groups booh niter luncheon and followed no set pro gram. President James F. Oyster, Ralph W. Lee, D. S. Porter and George F. Sehutt were entertained at the Coun try Club at dinner last night. EDUCATIONAL ELOCUTION AND 81NQINO. MRS! EMILY FRBCII DAILVES. 111 11th Ht, N.' E. Phone Lincoln I73J.
