T- ""-" ay f . ?rtr. r TH3jWASHINaT0N TIMES, TUESDAY, JULY 2, 1912. u mum. )) ARTISTS PRESENT ACTS TO KM D EN Her Royal Majesty of Eng land Enjoys Knockabout Acts Best. LONDON, July 2. Society assembled In strong force at the Palace Theater of Varlotles last night to see what ef fect a vaudeville show would have upon the King and Queen especially the se date Queen. This was the first com mand entertainment at an English Mu sic Hall, and for eighteen hours peoplo waited for admission. The house was magnificently deco rated, the royal box for the occasion costing $15,000, but the performance! fell very fiat with the exception of the knockabout turns, which pleased tho Queen greatly. A Jolt by George Roboy most peo people thought risque In the presence of royalty, but It "went." As a mayor opening swimming baths ho announced the regulations governing admission, thus: "Gentlemen on Mondays, Wed nesdays and Fridays; ladles on other days; the Mayor to use his discretion which day he goes In." The artists were all nervous and the various turns were strictly censored, with the result that the sovereigns did not cet the true atmosphere of the halls at all. Queen Mary obviously was vexed at being" compelled to sit through long In tervals with hundreds staring at her through opera glasses, for no ante-room had been provided. Fourth of July Plans At Glen Echo Park "Spotlight," the moon dance and oth ers of the kind apparently have lost favor with patrons of Glen Echo Park since the Capital has been Introduced to the very latest, "The Flickering Dance," recently introduced at the park. The big pavilion at the resort was thronged all last evening and .when the ned dance was tried again it met the Instant favor. Time and again the dancers Insisted on an enctere and the hundreds of onlookers who were en Jojlng the muBlc by the Charles O. 8 oronestra, joined in tho applause. Plans have been completed for the celebration of the Fourth on the safe and Bane order. The main feature of course will be the fireworks and the management has expended a thousand dollars for the display. Arrangements have been made for a Hit service that will handle the ex pected crowds without any tiresome de- wn? be" ftS, Adm,S8lon as usal. Odd Fellows' Outing.
